Rare Peachypooh Posted September 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2017 Hi. My other family members are going on a ship sponsored excursion that is too strenuous for me so I am going to have the morning in St. Thomas free. Is it safe for me to walk alone off the ship and down to the shops? How long is the walk and what is there? Thank you!
Ms411 Posted September 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2017 Very safe and shops are right there. What ship? There are 2 ports.

Ms411 Posted September 5, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 5, 2017 You're welcome! NCL should dock at Havensight and there are lots of shops there. A great little place to check out is the St Johns Bay Rum factory near the sushi place. Just ask people where the sushi place is until you find the factory. Such an interesting place! They actually make fragrances that were developed years ago. Quite a history. Free to take the quick tour. The gift shop carries items that are made here. Is there anything in particular you're interested in? The Music Shoppe is another fun place if you like music. They sell instruments and CDs and things. Rare Keith1010 Posted September 5, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 5, 2017 Just walking over to the shops is fine. I wouldn't stray any further then that. Now I say this because things happen and that can be anywhere and that is why when you see crew going into port they stay together in groups as opposed to going it alone and on their own. OCruisers Posted September 6, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2017 Lots & Lots of shops at Havensight where it will be perfectly fine for you to walk around alone. Enjoy! :)
Ms411 Posted September 6, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 6, 2017 The crew members are in groups because many of them are friends and/or family. They use their time in port to socialize in addition to buying personal items. Any time a US tourist is involved in a violent crime outside the US the issue usually makes national news, especially if the crime takes place in any "paradise" location that's a US territory. The govt can't suppress the news in US so most issues are released to the public. It would be interesting to see crimes against tourists in all popular US destinations. I see many people of all ages and nationalities walking alone from both ports. I don't think there's ever been a problem.
