casino and smokingÉ

While that does make a lot of sense and I was guessing you are a high dollar player. I would think that if they are so willing to put up sign for you they would also be accommodating to open a high stakes table in the non smoking section for you.

There are a couple of problems playing high stakes in the low stakes area.

1) There are shuffling machines there which gives the house a better edge.

2) The chips are not set up for a high stakes game. Chips need to be brought to the table for a player who may only be there a short while. Now those chips should be removed which is much harder to do than bringing chips in.

When I used to inquire about setting up a higher game in a lower area I was asked if I could play in the high stakes area and they would put a non smoking sign up for me. I am sure that if I insisted(which I would not) that I wanted the table set up in the low stakes area that they would.

That makes sense. Good luck.

Don't hold your breath, I was on a big tourney cruise last month & the smoking section was consistently packed vs. non smoking section.

CAS is not stupid and they will fight that tooth and nail.

I just got off the BA and I didn't notice that there was a smoking vs non smoking section, because the whole area smelled of smoke. I have to admit tough it didn't seem as bad as years past.

I did notice they made several announcements that smoking was only allowed while actively playing. So maybe that helped cut down on the smoke cloud?

NCL tried nonsmoking and failed miserably. The Escape lauched with a nonsmoking casino. By the first public cruise out of Miami (which we were on), they were breaking open cases of ash trays. They gave into the majority of the passengers who wanted a smoking casino.

Same lame argument?

Just ask Carnival cruise line & Atlantic City's Revel casino how that worked out for them and see which comment is truly lame.

Ah yes the carnival paradise....something like 20 years ago? Times they are...and have been...a changin.

No clue about the Revel place because I've never been to AC nor care to go

Actually a machine gives much more of a true random distribution of cards than hand shuffling.

This is true and exactly why I do not want to play at a table with a machine. To a real blackjack player random is the last thing they want. When the deck or decks become less random that is when a good player will strike.

BTW the shuffling machines are used virtually in all casinos now for all level of stakes.

False. Any casino worth a real players time will have hand shuffling at the higher stakes. If they did not they would be losing the bigger players. The way the casino industry is, the cruise ships would be the first to go to all machines and they have not.

The "real player" comment reminds me of a friend who was a "real dealer" and could manipulate the deck to give you any hand he chose.

Huh? I disagree. Just using Las Vegas as an example (which I think is a pretty fair sampling) this is not the case on any HL table I can recall seeing. I don't doubt someone has some, but it's rare. I'll even go so far as saying, you can still find low limit tables that hand shuffle.....in many casinos.

None of my local (3) have them on the HL tables and many $15 min tables hand shuffle.

Curious as to where you've seen them on HL tables?
