Preview and Semi-live Trip Report Freedom Western Caribbean

Recommended Posts

Our port time in Costa Maya is 11 - 7. We plan to get off the ship close to 11, walk to the waiting shuttle, and be at Maya Chan within 30 minutes.

I am going to ask to return to the ship at 6, and they will arrange transportation at the correct time.

The staff at maya chan are awsome. They know when the ship sails and have a last cab returning in plenty of time to catch the ship. I believe the last cab out would 45 min to boarding. A great experience with a well run company

Now that I have recovered from my post cruise cold with fever, here I will continue with the review.

We had two choices of shuttle times from our hotel: 9:30 or 11 AM. We went with 11, and it worked perfectly for us. We actually left the hotel around 11:15, waited in slow traffic for a bit, dropped off passengers at the Allure, and went to our drop off at the Freedom at Pier 29.

Thankfully, our driver did a great job, knew exactly where to go and we had our checked luggage to the porter, and we were walking in to security with no wait. We had one party ahead of us in line for priority check in.

We were on board at 12:30, and hungry. We went to Sorrento's for a quick lunch, and then went up to our room at 1.

We asked for and received: foam pillows, extra hangers, ice, and wine glasses.

Our room steward was excellent, her name was Dawn.

The only complaint I have is that we were next to an older couple who smoked marijuana many times per day on their balcony. Security came, could smell it, but couldn't do anything about it.

We weren't able to enjoy our balcony as much as we would have, but still were out there some time each day.

Having the loungers was nice, but I mainly used the chairs.

The tour we booked was the two snorkel stop plus stingray city. We ended up snorkeling first, due to the crowd at Stingray city.

These photos are from the snorkel stop there, and the stingray city stop, then the starfish point stop. Interesting tidbit. While we were at starfish point, there was a very large yacht chartered by a group who were shooting commercials with kids and young family groups.

I'm a little jealous. We did the dolphin encounter and stingray city. However, the boat we were on to get to stingray city ended up with transmission problems. We could see the area and the boats around it, we just never actually made it there. Oh well. Next time.

We ate in the MDR nights 1, 2, 5, and 6. We also ate in the MDR for breakfast every day and lunch on the first sea day. Our servers were great, Gloria and Ting. We were seated next to Casino Joan from our roll call on the first night and got to know her pretty well.

Unlike prior sailings, we saw every imaginable dress style in the MDR except for swimsuits. Ball caps, shorts, gym shorts, tee-shirts, sleeveless shirts on men. We saw it all.

We had my time dining, and only had to wait more than a few minutes on the second formal night, due to the large demand for the lobsters. The line for people who did not have reservations was longer every night.

We sat with others at breakfast most days, and for lunch the one time we went.

I love the layout and design of the dining rooms on deck 5 and 3, we never got a chance to eat in deck 4. I did walk past it on my morning walks around deck 4 outside.

Next, food pictures.
