Tipping Butler and/or Concierge with OBC

Can someone please help explain how to use the OBC to tip the Butler and Concierge with OBC? I have never tried this before, so I am not sure how this works. Thx

Just go down to the desk in the Atrium, tell them the name of the person you want to tip and the amount. They fill out a form that sends the money to the crew members account....and they give you a receipt. At that point I generally put the receipt in an envelope (which you can get at the desk too) and present the receipt to the crew member as if it were cash. The receipt makes sure the crew member gets the $, since they can present that if it doesn't show in their account for some reason.

I'll just add that it's the Guest Services desk in the atrium. It's really easy. We've done it several times when we seemed to have misplaced our cash in the casino.

You don't have to use OBC either- can be charged to your credit card on file like a regular purchase.

Hahaha. I have often "misplaced my cash in the casino" by the end of the trip as well, but have always put tipping cash away in the beginning of the trip just in case:D. Thank you for the laugh and I will try this next time.

Thank your for your response. I am happy to know that this is an option especially since they have started charging for the amenities on suite level rooms. This can offset that cost just a bit now.

Your additional charge for dining and drink gratuities for promo’s are added to your cruise fare at the time of booking. Your DSC cannot have OBC used to cover that. The best use is to tip butler and concierge with folio charge slip.

I have gone to the Guest Services desk numerous times in the past to add additional gratuities to the cabin steward, butler, concierge, etc. and have always LOVED this option as I too leave "most" of my cash in the casino!

But a while back I was told at Guest Services that these gratuities do NOT actually go to the people that I designate. At that point, I made sure to just give cash to the staff that have made the cruise such a wonderful experience. Keep in mind this is in ADDITION to the daily service charge - or whatever they call it. I got a copy of each receipt/voucher stating the NCL employee's name and the amount, and included it along with a Thank You note.

I am now curious once more as to whether any of you know for a fact that leaving gratuities in this manner actually DO go to the person specified? As again, I was told otherwise by personnel at Guest Services ( and she DID say NOT to say that she had told me this!)

I would LOVE to go back to the "old" way in which I left additional gratuities....no matter whether or not they could be paid by OBC (we are always leaving a TON of OBD on the table as we get a bunch from CAS!) and I have usually just added them to our onboard account and paid with credit card.

So now I am totally confused.....anyone that knows for SURE that the NCL employees specified actually DO get these cash amounts? Please chime in@ I am also confused as I did not think that OBC could be used for service charges, etc.....so enlighten me if you have experience to the contrary.

Like you, I usually leave cash, but if I can use the OBC to tip Butler and Concierge, I do want to make sure that it goes to them. I am looking forward to any responses to your question as well.

I've been told that it goes in to the employee's account, and it's usually credited "within a month" - would love a definitive answer, also. Butler and concierge have always seemed gracious in receiving the voucher, and I always give cash in addition. Using the OBC this way is a good way to make an equitable divide when it's being given to the entire cabin, if there are more than 2 people sharing the cabin.
