Exchanging US Dollars for Aust/NZ Dollars

We will be on the Radiance in March, leaving from Sydney for a cruise around New Zealand, back to Sydney.

 

Is it possible to exchange US dollars on board for Australian or New Zealand currency? Any limitations? Or should we purchase before we leave?

We were on the Radiance two years ago on a cruise from Hawaii to Sidney with a stop in New Zealand. Guest Services was able to exchange US dollars into both New Zealand and Australian currency. Was not aware of any limitations on the maximum amount they would exchange.

You will get a much better exchange rate at home or on land.

If you exchange currencies on the ship, it will cost you around 7%. Always best to get your foreign currency from a bank ATM. Fees/currency exchange rates may apply depending on your home bank, but still much cheaper than exchanging on the ship.

 

I have noticed recently that a lot of ATM's will prompt you to ask if you would like them to do the currency conversion for you. Always say NO and let your bank do the conversion otherwise it will cost you an additional 2-3%.
