Grover-Lee Posted February 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2018 We will be sailing on the Celebrity Reflection on Feb 9th. And we will be celebrating Mardi Gras when we are in New Orleans for 3 days. My question is does anyone know what side of the ship will on the land side of the dock in New Orleans? We were on Celebrity's Mardi Gras cruise last year and we docked on the starboard side. Of course things may change this year. Rare Keith1010 Posted February 3, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2018 You might want to also post on the Celebrity Board to see if others had the same experience as jgiblin or if it was the port side. As noted you never can be 100% sure. Keith
Grover-Lee Posted February 3, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted February 3, 2018 That would be fabulous if they stick to that and keep things the same! As our cabin is on the Starboard side! Crossing our fingers. How did you enjoy the cruise last year?
Rare Hlitner Posted February 3, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 3, 2018 You can never be sure on which side a ship will dock. There are various factors that go into the decision and some of them are kind of obscure. For example, a Captain might want to dock on a specific side so the crew has access to the pier-side to paint. Or we have seen decisions made because the ship wants to test on particular life boat (and lower it into the water). Hank
gooch47 Posted February 3, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 3, 2018 Not sure it will matter. The view of the streets are blocked by the terminal and the Outlet Mall.
Aquahound Posted February 3, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 3, 2018 In New Orleans, the starboard side is almost always against the pier. It has to do with the river's current. Ships have better maneuverability when bow-in to the current.

Crossing our fingers. How did you enjoy the cruise last year? The cruise was very good and Mardi Gras .... is an experience. A good tip is to use the trolly system to get to/from where the ship docks to the French Quarter. The trolly station is just outside of the cruise terminal and travels the mile or so along the riverfront to the FQ. It costs $1.25/person (half price for seniors) and a multi-day, HOHO pass can be purchased for $3.00 (?). Had we known to use the trolly our first day there would have been particularly valuable as the crowds along the riverfront, especially near Woldenberg Park, are HUGE and parts of the riverfront walk are blocked off. cmdchiefthom Posted February 3, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 3, 2018 The side your docked on is variable. In April, a Carnival ship was tied with her bow facing the bridge, starboard side on the dock. The NCL Dawn, the ship we were on was tied up with her stern facing the Carnival ship, and her bow facing towards the downtown section of New Orleans, and port side on the dock. As the departure time came, the Dawn moved off the dock towards the center of the river and straight ahead. The Carnival ship had to get off the dock, head towards the center of the river, and do a 180 degree turn in the middle of the river, to follow us down river and out to the Gulf. gooch47 Posted February 4, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 4, 2018 Not to nit pick, but the cost for seniors on the streetcar is 40 cents each way. You must have a drivers license or other id to show you are a senior. But they often just glance at it.
