Price drop, OBC and refund questions

Hey there, I did lots of searches but couldn't find quite what I was looking for.

My MIL booked a cruise through a TA. She got a $50 OBC through Carnival and another $50 from the TA for a total of $100.

This morning, the price dropped and she received an additional OBC (it's past final payment date) of $148.85 from Carnival.

So she has $248.85 in OBC that I know she won't totally use.

Help me understand. Is the price drop OBC ($148.85) refundable after the cruise?

My guess is that the $100 promotional is non-refundable.

When gratuities are charged, do they take them from the non-refundable OBC first? For example, if she only spends $100 then is it the non-refundable portion she's spending?

I hope I am making sense...

Did the new rate include the $50 OBC that she originally received from Carnival.

It could very well be that she lost that original OBC of $50 from Carnival.

Therefore, she could be at $148 from Carnival for the price drop and only $50 from the TA.

Either way, yes the gratuities will come from the OBC and yes, they use up any non refundable first

The original $50 OBC was not a gift, it was part of the promotion. If the new price did not include the $50 OBC as part of the promotion, then that $50OBC from Carnival is gone.

She can always go to the Casino and charge funds to her room on a slot machine. Then go cash out and she'll have the cash.

Brilliant. We're in a similar boat (haha, see what I did there?) and may need to use this.

To answer your questions:

1. Typically Promotional cruise line OBC is "non refundable".

2. They will use up "non refundable" OBC FIRST, so gratuities will come out of 'non refundable' OBC and once used up it will come out of 'refundable'.

If all you have left is refundable...as long as it is greater than $10 (I think that is the amount), then you will get a credit back from CCL for the balance left of 'refundable' OBC. You don't need to do anything, it will automatically be refunded to the form of payment that paid it (i.e., credit card etc).

If 'non refundable' OBC is left, then the suggestion of cashing out in the casino will get that $$ cashed out.

Hope this helps! Have a great cruise!

Is there a list anywhere of what OBC is refundable vs non refundable?
Non

From booking promotion

Cruise cash

Refund

Refunds (such as port fees for missed ports)

Gift cards or cash added to account while on board or at check in

Price drop refunds

I think that's all the sources
