Extra tips on Cheers - cash or sign?

We try to bring a lot of singles to tip with cheers. But once they are gone, then we start adding it to our sign and sail.

I do not tip above the standard 15% if it is just a beer or glass of wine. If it is something that actually takes time and effort, like a specialty drink in the alchemy bar, I just add a couple bucks to the slip. I have never noticed a lack of service for not tipping on beer/wine/pop/water.

Since my Wife and I are usually drinking together I tip with two dollar bills. Less bills to deal with and the bartenders seem to remember you by them. They're hard to find sometimes but the banks usually have them after Christmas or they can order them for you.

I use dollar bills, they put them right in their pocket. They see you coming and your drinks are being made. I also use the dollars to count my drinks.

Saw on John Heald’s Facebook today he was asked about tips. He said a beverage server keeps their tips while a bartender’s tips are pooled. So I think if you give a bartender cash and they stick it in their pocket they’re coming out better than adding it to the check.
