Mom, your sign and sail card is just the card they give you when you arrive and check in to your cruise. It is your room key, your ID card used when exiting and re-boarding the ship, and is also used for all on board spending. You don't use cash or credit cards on board. You use your SS card for everything, all spending goes onto your account.

OBC, on board credit, is simply a dollar amount of credit that is applied to your onboard account. Sometimes travel agents will offer OBC when you book with them, or sometimes Carnival offers special deals where you get a bit of OBC when you book with them. The OBC just is an amount of money that goes toward paying down your SS account.

So you use your SS card to buy drinks at the bars and souvenirs in the shops. Your OBC will be applied to help pay for this. The balance that you owe can be paid in two ways. You can register a credit card to your account. At then end of the cruise the balance will be charged to your credit card. Or you can put down a cash deposit on your onboard account if you prefer not to use credit cards

I hope this helps.

Happy sailing!

so if there is 4 people in one room, will all of us work off one account or can we all have separate accounts for our own spending as i really don't wanna be sharing funds with my 20 yr old son, I can already imagine where his spending is going LOL

You can choose to have separate or combined folios, whichever you choose.

People staying in the same cabin can have separate spending accounts. Minors, if you have any with you, have to be added to the expense account of an adult, but you can deny that minor the ability to make charges on your account. For example, my son was on my expense account, but I didn't want him spending my money, so I denied him charging privileges and we simply put a separate cash amount on his spending account. He saved his own money for the cruise.

If you open a S&S account with a credit card, an initial hold will be placed on that card. $100 for 2-5 day cruises and $200 for 6 & longer. If you reach that hold amount, another hold will be placed on the card, and so on. The card is then charged at the end of the cruise.

If you open an S&S account with cash, you can make a deposit during check-in at the terminal, at Guest Services on board, or at one of the kiosks (they're like ATM's). For cash accounts, if you run out, simply add more to it. At the end of the cruise, you can go to Guest Services or one of the kiosks and withdraw any remaining cash. If you do not do this, Carnival will mail you a check for the remaining balance, as long as it's over $10. Anything under $10 will be donated to St. Jude's.

Carnival gift cards can also be added to your S&S account. Do that during check-in or on board. Any On Board Credit, whether it was given to you by Carnival or from a gift card, will be used first when spending on board the ship. Then cash (if any), then credit card (if one is registered). If you have any remaining funds that were put on the account with a Carnival gift card, they will mail you a new gift card with the remaining balance. Some people have reported that Guest Services put the balance back on an existing gift card or issued a new one right there on the spot, but experiences vary. If you don't want it back on a gift card, you can use the casino "trick" to cash out in the casino, but I won't get into that. There are plenty of threads with instructions on how to do it.

Oh that is good to know, i like the idea of individual actually :) thank you so much im prob going to have more questions i am sure sorry if i am annoying LOL

What this person said. Just no questions about reserving chairs, wearing jeans in the MDR, or whether Cheers is "worth it"
