Rare MicCanberra Posted August 29, 2018 #476 Share Posted August 29, 2018 Colombians probably sold it to the Germans. What a lovely scenic container port Callao is. The colours of those containers are just beautiful to the eye. Reminds me of many ports where all the buildings are different colours

NSWP Posted August 31, 2018 #480 Share Posted August 31, 2018 (edited) Hopefully they will be able to get ashore at Easter island in a few days time. They will be able to see the Moai Statues. Not many cruise ship call into Easter Island, only 1 every month or two, so they should get a good reception. The Chilean Government has put limits on tourist numbers there, due to fragile eco system etc. Fingers crossed that the seas are kind for the tendering operation. Rare MMDown Under Posted September 3, 2018 #486 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Family on board have reported via FB that they missed Easter Island and are heading to Pitcairn. Disappointing for them. Always disappointing for passengers to miss a featured port like Easter Island. It might help to give passengers statistics on the number of ships which miss certain ports, to prepare them for possible disappointment. They are definitely on the home run across the Pacific now. NSWP Posted September 3, 2018 #487 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Most of the Easter Island Private Tour Operators will also take 50% of the prepaid tour money for administration costs. One reason why at a port like Easter Island, Ship's shorex is the best bet - money back. Some unhappy cruisers on board no doubt, missing Easter Island and perhaps also losing some money on prepaid private tours.:o I think it is 50/50 re ships that actually land pax at Easter Island. I am sure that a sail around Easter Island and a sighting of the Moai on the coastline , will more than qualify a tick on the bucket list .:)

Aus Traveller Posted September 4, 2018 #494 Share Posted September 4, 2018 thats a bit harsh.:rolleyes:just getting there is an achievement . I have spent three days on Easter Island as part of a land tour of South America. I have also been on a cruise ship when we were unable to land. Instead, the captain circumnavigated the island. We could see the shapes of some moai using binoculars, but it does not compare with seeing the moai from close-up. I stick by my comment of "a quarter of a tick".:D

Some locals might come on board to sell some bits and pieces. Are any of them still in the purpose built gaol they built there only a few years ago ? I won't go into the crimes.:evilsmile:
