TravelFun251 Posted June 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2018 Hi - Can anyone give me insight on the hair dryer on the Emerald? I am partial to mine but don't want to lug it with us if the dryer is decent. We just returned from Europe. The hairdryers over seas weren't the best - low power & heat. And you had to hold the power button down to keep it running. Odd but it was how every hotel's dryers were. Also, are there irons available to request? I am guessing there isn't one in every cabin, or is there? Thanks! Never cruised on Princess and it's been approx 5 years since we cruised. I remember a thing..LOL
Rare Essiesmom Posted June 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2018 No irons for the cabins, but there are multiple self-service laundries that have irons. Hairdryers will be much like you have already experienced. Oh, and the name of the ship is Emerald Princess, not Princess Emerald. More information can be found on the Princess board here, where you posted your other question. EM
Nebr.cruiser Posted June 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2018 We were on the Emerald in January. The hair dryer is ok--not as good as my own--but not too bad for a cruise ship. It was not so bad that I would bring my own along. It definitely took longer to dry hair than at home though. You do not have to hold the button down for it to work, thankfully. I hate that kind. And no irons, except in laundry rooms.

Reina del Mar Posted June 18, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 18, 2018 Hairdryers on Emerald Princess are OK..not wonderful. You can take a rubber band and put it around the button you need to hold down on some hairdryers, to make it easier to use. Irons are available in self service laundry rooms which seem to be on all decks. Alternatively, can send to be pressed in Laundry...may need a day or two if they are busy. Velvetwater Posted June 18, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 18, 2018 I have very long (over 50cm), naturally thick hair and never have had a problem with any hairdryer on any ship. If it can sort out my hair then it should be fine for pretty much anyone. They key is to air dry it a little first with a glass of wine in the sea air. :) Save your luggage space for other fun bits. TravelFun251 Posted June 18, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted June 18, 2018 Thanks. Sounds like I’m going for it and using the cabin hairdryer. And love your thinking 😊
flamomo Posted June 19, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Personally, I very much dislike the hairdryers on Princess ships because of the weak air flow. I have short but thick hair, and I had a hard time, and took a lot of time, to get it thoroughly dry. Plus because of the clunky style of the dryers, it's difficult to direct a concentrated flow of air in the process of trying to style my hair. Forty-plus Princess cruises later, after first discovering how puny they are, I have always brought along my own travel dryer.
