GT3Nick Posted August 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2018 Hi, We're taking our first P&O cruise on Ventura to Guernsey in a couple of weeks. We're only there for the best part of a day and to maximise that, we wanted to plan the day. We've bought an excursion with a start time of 0845. Guernsey is a tender transfer so that'll take time so we wondered if the 0845 time would be the assembly time on board, awaiting the tender embarkation, or whether it would be the bus-boarding time on the quayside in the town? I telephoned P&O and asked and they said it's the bus boarding time in town. This is good as it means more time in Guernsey, but... it's less than 10 minutes from the museum... and we know the museum doesn't open till 1000... so something's not right. Can anyone clarify? Thanks in advance. N&K.
John Bull Posted August 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2018 When you phoned, did you mention the port? Or that it's a tender port? When berthed, ships' excursion time is normally time to be on the pier. But at tender ports those on ship's excursions are given priority for tenders and are instructed to meet up at a venue on the ship - somewhere like the theatre, a dining room, a bar. Almost certainly your meet-up time is on-the-ship. But you'll find out when you get aboard - ships' crew tend to know waaay better than head offices JB :)
zqvol Posted August 10, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2018 At a tender port the time on your ticket is generally the time you meet in a venue on the ship to begin the process of heading ashore. I would not worry about the opening time because museums, etc. often open at different times for private tours like a ship's excursion.
paul929207 Posted August 10, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2018 Like the others above, we have always found the start time for tours in tender ports will be the time to meet in one of the lounges. From there you will be escorted to the tender
jocap Posted August 10, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2018 It will be made clear when you get into your cabin. Your tickets will probably be there already, or in the letter rack outside the door, and will have the exact time and venue on them. Also, check the copy of the Horizon newspaper, which will have the time of all the tours on. Enjoy Ventura, our favourite ship. :)
cb at sea Posted August 10, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2018 If it's a ship's excursion...no worries about time. They will tell you when and where to meet, and off you go! Not a problem, even at tendered ports.
