rkacruiser Posted September 10, 2018 #126 Share Posted September 10, 2018 The crane on the starboard (left side of the pic) is there to lower equipment like the paint float, and at times, a gangway to the water line and/or dock. It could be used to lower empty zodiacs to the water line. There used to be a similar crane on the port side which appears to have been removed. The white & black contraption to the rear of the lifeboat is the spare anchor. That life boat is only there temporary. During dry-docks all lifeboats and tenders are removed and a full inspection, as well as maintenance and repairs (if needed) is carried out on the lifeboat/tender davit system. Me thinks something has prevented that lifeboat on the bow to be returned/housed to/in its normal location on the port side. Thanks for your explanation, Copper John. Any idea what the emergency plan would be for those guests assigned to that lifeboat?
Rare Copper10-8 Posted September 10, 2018 #127 Share Posted September 10, 2018 Thanks for your explanation, Copper John. Any idea what the emergency plan would be for those guests assigned to that lifeboat? They would be divided up and assigned to other lifeboats. HAL as well as the USCG would not let Maasie sail out of PE if there were guests NOT assigned to operational/workable lifeboats. That lifeboat on her bow is NOT workable/operational at this time

That lifeboat on her bow is NOT workable/operational at this time Thanks for the answer to my question! It's good to know that there would be a "Plan B" if "Plan A" could not be executed. Given the already crowded conditions in the lifeboats (with posteriors covering the black spots in the seating areas of the boats and guests wearing life jackets), adding more such attired guests...! Krazy Kruizers Posted September 11, 2018 #129 Share Posted September 11, 2018 Thanks for your explanation, Copper John. Any idea what the emergency plan would be for those guests assigned to that lifeboat? We were on the old Noordam many years ago. One lifeboat was out of commission. Those people were assigned to various other lifeboats. When we were scheduled to leave Aruba and head to Grand Cayman, one of the heavy duty wires to hoist her back in place snapped -- she was under maintenance. The lifeboat ended up cracking a window in the Lido (back then on a lower deck). The crew spent several hours getting her back in place before we could leave Aruba. Can you imagine if they had not gotten that lifeboat back in place how many more passengers would have had to be re-assigned to other lifeboats? ger_77 Posted September 11, 2018 #130 Share Posted September 11, 2018 Thanks for the answer to my question! It's good to know that there would be a "Plan B" if "Plan A" could not be executed. Although DH doesn't normally like wearing t-shirts with slogans, he did buy one and loves wearing it; it says: "Plan B Better be good." Sorry I missed sail-away, but we'll be on the Maasdam in February and will be able to see everything for ourselves. Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)
