aknguyen Posted September 25, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2018 There have been a number of posts about road closures, construction, and traffic trying to get in and out of Galveston. There is a pretty good website that lists all the planned activities. You can customize the date ranges and it goes pretty far out. https://traffic.houstontranstar.org/construction/construction_report.aspx There's also a traffic map if that suits you better. It shows both major airports. https://traffic.houstontranstar.org/layers/layers.aspx?lc=True The most frequented route to Galveston is I-45 South from Houston. However, there are several routes to get onto I-45 South depending on which airport you're coming into or which part of Houston you're driving into. Lottacruises Posted September 27, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2018 One thing for sure, 45 is a wildcard.
Texas Tillie Posted September 27, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2018 One thing for sure, 45 is a wildcard. Construction on The Gulf Freeway (now I 45) was started in 1954. It has been a wild card at some point between downtown Houston and Galveston every day since!!
ssb Posted September 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2018 The Gulf Freeway has come a long way in all these years . Progress has been great and is coming along now tremendously for the future .
JBSteelerfan Posted September 28, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 28, 2018 Now if we can find a way to put a highway to just breeze thru/around Houston without dealing with all of that traffic.
ssb Posted September 28, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 28, 2018 (edited) Texas Department of Transportation and Highways This is general redesign and massive expansion to help with issues driving thru Houston . Reconstruction has already begun ! There is always the existing Loop and Beltway System and older highways. BallFour4 Posted October 2, 2018 #7 Share Posted October 2, 2018 I go to Galveston three times a week from the Clear Lake area. The travel times are varied and depending on my business, some of those are busy weekends. The worst delay I’ve experienced in all the new construction is about fifteen minutes. From the Beltway to the causeway on morning commutes takes about 45 min. Allow for a stop at Buc ee’s and you’re looking at an hour and 10-15 min. . BallFour4 Posted October 2, 2018 #9 Share Posted October 2, 2018 You can get our of Buc-ee's in 30 minutes?! ;) Yes, I go to San Antonio and Austin for my job, so I’m perhaps more experienced in Buc-ee’s strategies. :)
