Purchasing onboard credit

i know I can do this but can't find where and how to buy obc for my upcoming cruise on the Crown on Nov17. Figure this will be the best way to avoid a large bill at the end. Also, our Canadian $ seems to be pretty volatile right now so figure it wouldn't hurt to have some prepaid.

Log into your account or booking at the princess site. From there look for gifts and OBC is there and can be purchased in $25.00 increments.

Look under onboard activities and on board credit should be there. I just looked.

If you booked your cruise in Canadian funds, the OBC options will reflect whatever the exchange rate was when you booked it. So the US$100 will show as $120 or $125 for example. Likely better than what the exchange is today. :)

As being Canadian we face a potential 35% exchange rate from the credit card/banks. My understanding is that Princess is only taking 20% on Canadian dollars. Would a purchase 3 or 4 hundred dollars worth of OBC be deducted from our final bill at the end of the cruise? Am I correct in assuming that OBC is good for everything from bar bills, shop purchases, restaurant cover charges, to excursions or are there exclusions? Would any unused balance of OBC be refunded at the end of a cruise? Thanks in advance for any advice you may provide.

We have always purchased on board credit ahead of time as the exchange rate was always better and we did not want to have a huge bill at the end. Our obc was used to pay grats, bar bills, on board shopping, and restaurant cover charges. We had prebooked some Princess excursions, and at the time (April-May 2018), we had to pay up front for those. We had to pay less than $10 at the end, so I cannot comment on how one might be refunded.

I’m Canadian also. In 2016 I prepurchased both on board and casino credits. It was processed out of Vancouver Canada in Canadian funds but I received it on board in US funds. Ex. Paid 300 Canadian received 300 American. Dollar to dollar. Exchange rate was probably 1.20 so should have only received 80%. I was expecting less when on board. ;p

The casino credit was given to me in cash at casino when it first opened. I figured it would just be set on cruise card. Had I known it was paid in cash I wouldn’t have gotten any from the bank beforehand.

I’m sure that was a mistake. Hopefully they make the same error next time:*

I purchased OBC a couple of weeks ago. They charged my CC in US $ by mistake. So instead of charge of $375 cdn for $300 US OBC they charge my cc $525 cdn. When looking on my Princess account summary it showed US$300 paid at Cdn $375.

So I called Princess and they (after much conversation and checking and moving up to a supervisor of course) gave me a further $125 OBC on my Princess account.

Be sure to check your cc statement online to see what the charge went through at. Funny all my other charges for water, soda, beer, coffee card and booze went through correctly at the cdn value shown to me on my Princess account.
