To echo others comments, take spares of your glasses and contacts. Not likely to get a contact prescription filled on shore with what is typically 8 or so hours in port, unless your specific prescription is common and on hand. But if so, you will likely pay in full and hope for a insurance reimbursement at home. Simple eyeglass repairs, maybe. I have never seen an optical shop on a cruise ship BRING SPAres ... as others have said. My DH always travel ed with three pair glasses He needed tri focals and would not risk being without a good, useable pair. ldubs Posted January 9, 2019 #27 Share Posted January 9, 2019 I read here on CC that one of the Celebrity ships has glass blowing classes. So, I'm thinking, just maybe . . .

Rare brillohead Posted January 16, 2019 #29 Share Posted January 16, 2019 For people who don't have a spare pair, a former coworker just got glasses -- lenses and frames both -- for $11USD, cash price, no insurance. Even if they were butt-ugly "military basic" (which hers weren't), eleven bucks is some pretty cheap insurance to make sure your vacation isn't ruined! donaldsc Posted January 16, 2019 #30 Share Posted January 16, 2019 Shops are on board to generate revenue for the cruise company. How much revenue would an on board optical shop generate? As others have said, just bring a spare pair of glasses. DON
