Jeep rental pre-purchase in Cozumel

We will be cruising to Cozumel on Carnival. We would really like to rent a vehicle beforehand, preferably a Jeep. It appears that the prices are way higher if you rent one when you get off the boat, so I'd like to get something cheaper online. I also don't want to take a taxi to the airport, if possible. Finally, when you select a Jeep "class" online, it isn't guaranteed to get that type of vehicle. Any tips on what I should do?

What price are you getting? We pre-booked through Ernesto’s. They have their office not too far from the cruise pier across from the Grand Park Royal Resort. $60. The Jeep was older and they do have newer ones for an upcharge, but we took the older one.

I looked into Jeep rental and it seems like Ernesto's is the best bet.

However, I decided to go with a regular small SUV through Alamo.  It was a little cheaper than Ernesto.  It will also be more comfortable than a Jeep, in terms of egress/agress, plus it'll have AC.  Also, you can lock it and conceal any purchases more readily than you can in a Jeep.

It won't be as much fun, but it'll work better for us.

We went a similar route. Found a "regular-sized SUV" 10 minutes from the port for $36.

Not too far as in walking distance or is a cab needed to get there?

Depends which pier you dock at.

5 mins from International; 10-15 Puerta Maya; cab from Punta Langosta, nearer places in town.

If you dock at Puerta Maya, it’s a short walking distance. From Punta Langosta you’ll need to cab it or it’s a long walk.
