Hotels in London

Recommended Posts

Looking for a reasonably price hotel in London close to Buckingham Palace, etc for two women. We are currently staying at the Holiday Inn London Mayfair (two beds) which I believe is about a few blocks from the Palace.  I have never been to London before so all the help I can get would be great.  We plan on hiring Blackberry or Smiths to transport us from LHR to Hotel, to South Hampton and back to LHR post cruise.  Are we in a good location?  Or should we stay elsewhere?  Are intent is to do a fair amount of walking but really want to be centrally located.

1. You can use Tripadvisor to find hotels; there are many that fit your criteria. One possibility is The Premier Inn Victoria. The HI, Mayfair is quite a bit more expensive.

2. Smiths is Southampton (note spelling) based, so no good for the LHR/London leg. Blackberry works for both, but you should get quotes and decide.

3. Victoria is good for the attractions West of the City, but public transport (bus and underground) is excellent so access to a station (and maybe a HOHO) is probably key.

4. If you want to save money, you can use a National Express Coach for both legs of your transport.

London is a wonderful city for walking, but it is so large with so many diverse attractions located in a variety of areas that you will ultimately need some form of transport for part of your trip.  We love the Tube and thus always pay close attention to where our nearest station is when booking our hotels. As to your distant transport, I second Bob++ suggestion of National Express.  Easy and inexpensive.  We were also quite pleased with Smith’s on a STH to Gatwick run where time was of the essence.

In terms of location, it's hard to beat the HI Mayfair - you really are in the middle of it all, with lots within walking distance. For those attractions further afield, lots of buses around and the Green Park tube station is just around the corner - meaning that if you were so inclined, you could take the underground from LHR to your hotel.

Ok, so what about "Club Quarters" Lincoln's inn? Is that in a good location? We checked out Trip Advisor and it got excellent reviews.  The price is also very reasonable and we can get a Club Level Classic Room.  Comes with many amentities and less than $200 per night.

It’s a great location, but possibly not for your purposes 🙂 More of a business area, but convenient for e.g. the British Museum and theatreland. Lincoln’s Inn Field is one of my favourite squares in London - large, green public space. Lincoln’s Inn is one of the Inns of Court, the ancient associations for barristers in London, so a lot of lawyers around!

You originally mentioned Buckingham Palace and have changed from a hotel a short walk away to one that will require a tube journey and take about half an hour. You will spend more time on transport if you stay here, but as mentioned by others there is nowhere in London convenient for all the ‘sights’.

That's what I thought. We're sticking with HI Mayfair.

This is not a great location for where most tourists would want to be.

There is however a Club Quarters right off of Trafangar Square. It may be a few £ more but in the “perfect” location to walk to most places.

WE did look at that one but they really only had solo rooms available and the HI Mayfair has a two bed room so we decided to just stick with that location.
