w8ng 2 cruise Posted January 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2006 ************* There once was a family, who knew nothing 'bout cruising, ‘twas not a vacation, they ner thought of choosing. That family was us, and as you will see, We’re already addicted, (to) the ships and the sea! A friend of the family, gave us a ring, and asked us to join them….and we said "sure thing"! So off to the laptop, we started to lurch, Who knew there was so much, that needed research. We "Googled" for hours, until we came here, A Cruise Critic Forum..... now did appear. We lurked through this website…for hours till dawn, With all of this info, we’d never go wrong! In the days that did follow, the excitement grew near, It was time to reserve, without any fear. Prepared with the info, learned straight from this board, We knew what’s expected, from the members onboard. With the click of a button, a few seconds to spare, The Royal Caribbean website, soon was right there. The music was playing, the photos were great, We knew from the start the ship was first rate! The page started loading……“reservations click here”, It was almost like magic an AFT did appear! Amazed with good fortune, or luck at its best, We realized our sailing, must surely be blessed. Now the waiting begins, the excitement draws near. Before we know it, the day will be here. We haven’t set sail on the sea just as yet, So how can addiction, if true, we did get? The enthusiasm contagious, the excitement abounds, How do we reserve, the next cruise we just found? So thank you Cruise Critics, with addicts galore, Count us as one, and add a few more. ******************** To be continued………:D ………DeeDee

Linda/Ohio Posted January 21, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 21, 2006 One snowy winter back in 1997, I was sitting in our upstairs office--husband was working late. A blizzard was blowing outside and I sort of stumbled across the idea...the rest as they say is history. Don't have one planned for 2006 yet. Although I am going to Disneyworld next month (with several of the people from last years cousin's cruise). bubbie617 Posted January 21, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 21, 2006 Waaaayyyyyy back in 1983, the company where my husband worked received a gift of a number of cruises for two for buying a certain amount of merchandise in a particular period of time. We were invited to go. We had never taken a cruise; we had never even thought about it. We decided to go but told each other that if we didn't like it, we could fly home from the first port. We've done about 30 cruises since then. We are so addicted. We were on a 14 night cruise over Thanksgiving and our upcoming ones are below. Even so, I still look longingly at websites for cruises all the time. MY NAME IS SUSAN AND I'M A CRUISE ADDICT!!
kenandlaura06 Posted January 21, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 21, 2006 Very cute poem! I knew I was addicted when I got off my Fascination cruise that I went on with a former friend who made many aspects of the trip miserable and yet I still was able to love the cruise! Haven't been able to cruise in four years, but looking forward to taking more cruises in the future.

cruisin granny Posted January 22, 2006 #14 Share Posted January 22, 2006 Our first cruise was a compamy paid group cruise of 150. I became addicted to cruising after I discovered I did not get sea sick and was able to escape back to the ship after my then 55 year old husband danced on the table at Carlos & Charlie's. Glad our ship left Cozumel that night or he may still be dancing. Leaving in 3 weeks-not to Cozumelso maybe my DH will behave!?
charliem Posted January 22, 2006 #15 Share Posted January 22, 2006 WE have a cruise addiction...........took our first 15 years ago for our 25th wedding anniversary. I thought it would be a once in a lifetime trip - DH went to make me happy. Thanks goodness he became as addicted as I did. We will celebrate our 40th anniversary on a 14 day cruise in May - cruise #11. I have to admit we were unfaithful - one year went to SF on vacation and another took a land tour to Hawaii......but cruising is in our blood now - best way there is to vacation! Great poem.........you will love cruising!!!
mikefast Posted January 22, 2006 #16 Share Posted January 22, 2006 I took my first cruise about six months after my first wife passed away. I went with a church group just to get away from home for a week. I never realized I could enjoy myself again. I promised myself if I every found someone to share my life with again, that I would take her on a cruise. Well, God blessed me with another wonderful wife. We have been married 5 1/2 years, and are going to take our sixth cruise in a week. There is nothing as good as being alone together on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean with someone you love. (even if there are a couple thousand other people around)

JPEvans Posted January 22, 2006 #18 Share Posted January 22, 2006 Sometime in the mid 1970's my father took my sisters and I to NYC to the Bronx zoo. On the way home we took a ride into Manhattan. The old Holland America S.S. Volendam was docked. At that time all you had to do was pay a dollar and you can visit the cruise ships. That started my fascination of cruise ships and ocean liners, that has not died. It wasn't till 1986 that I got to go on my first cruise though. w&k Posted January 22, 2006 #20 Share Posted January 22, 2006 In 1986, my mother won a cruise in a Red Cross raffle and took me along. Anybody remember the Cunard Countess??? Little did we know what that 7 day trip would turn into! Actually, DH and I suffer a double addiction... we're cruisers and divers. We are slowly working our way through all the good diving islands in the Caribbean. Wendy

biledo Posted January 25, 2006 #23 Share Posted January 25, 2006 ... and I am addicted to Cruising. It started for me in 1987.... Before I knew better :) .... My wife and I honeymooned on the "Big Red Boat". In 1991, we returned as her Grandmother took the family on the same ship for a reunion. For the "Y2K" we did the Disney Magic and got 'readdicted'... and held off thru Hawaii and Mexico vacations until... In 2005 we did the Carnival Legend ... and saw the NOS in St. Maarten... "forcing" us to book.... This coming March we are off on the AOS and are VERY excited!
LBB Posted January 25, 2006 #24 Share Posted January 25, 2006 It started in 1990 when my parents made the mistake of taking my brother and me on the Song of America I was 15 and it was the first time I went on a vacation and was actually given some freedom. I could go hang out with the other kids and my parents would let me go out at night by myself...and I stayed in a room with my brother. I was used to a lot of rules at home, so this was great. I guess I still associate cruises with that feeling of freedom. It was even better the first time I went away on a cruise as an "adult".
TnMDougherty Posted January 28, 2006 #25 Share Posted January 28, 2006 addicted or obsessed? I've been on dry land for two years now. Finally convinced my DH that it was time to go again. Only 193 days till we set sail, and here I am cruising the message boards. Just curious; how many of you have checked into the Residenseas? My lottery winnings are buying me a condo there!
