Can you still order from the MDR menu to your cabin?

1. The “newbie” thread back in 2014 indicated that you could order food from the MDR menu to your cabin if you called between 5 and 5:30.  Is that still true now, five years later?

 

2.  A related question:  If you go to the Lido, and you decide you want to take food to your cabin  , e.g., if it is too loud or too packed to sit, are you allowed to take your plate to your cabin?  Are there trays?

Yes you can still order food for your cabin from the dining room dinner menu.  Each ship differs about the time you can call -- and tell them when you want the dinner served.

 

Yes -- you can take plates of food back to your cabin from the Lido.  There are no trays in the Lido.  But you can use the tray under your ice bucket.  It is small but will hold a couple of small plates.

You can also depending on the ship order from Tamarind (BENTO BOXES)

we did on Eurodam. Also their is a limited menu you can order from Pinnacle Grill, both for an extra charge.

we enjoyed MDR dinners delivered to our stateroom. If we enjoyed something on the MDR menu we would call around 4:30 and have it delivered at our requested time.

We ordered from MDR menu on Rotterdam, called at 6:15pm and it was delivered within 15 minutes.  Surf and turf, oh yeah!

If you order room service say, Just coffee. It will come on a tray. Keep the tray and they will remove the coffee cups and carafe that they bring it in. It makes it a lot easier to carry the food back. Nobody ever said a word to us.

You may also bring food from the Lido Breakfast for later consumption in your stateroom.  I like the little cups of muesli, granola-yogurt cups, and a plate of various cheeses for late-night snacks.  Snack crackers are also available during lunch.  Bring some Ziploc bags that will hold the saucer with cheese to keep it fresh in your minibar for later.  An extra box of granola cereal from breakfast makes for good munchies during the day.

We tried that with a tray on Princess once (never on HAL), and even put it in a cabinet. Two days later it was gone....🙄
