Need "No Swimming" signs at Labadee!

We just returned from the April 7th sailing of the Allure of the Seas. Our final port of call was Labadee. Since this is a privately owned Royal stop over, everyone on the ship got off to enjoy the stop. It was very crowded. We were among the first to debark, so we headed off to the highly-recommended Adrenaline Beach. Upon arrival, a "Beach Manager" asked how many chairs that we needed, so I told him 4. He immediately setup the chairs for us about 25 feet from the beach. As we stepped into the water, a lifeguard blew his whistle and told us to get out. He said it was unsafe to swim here. So the four of us gathered our belongings and chairs, then proceeded another 100 yards up the beach before setting up camp again. When we entered the water here, the current was so bad and the sand like quicksand, it was too dangerous here as well. We finally decided to give up the idea of being in the water and just enjoyed the sunshine.

If these areas are too dangerous to swim in, then Royal Caribbean needs to post warning signs so that no one attempts to swim there. We wasted so much time looking for a safe place that there was no longer anywhere to set up at the main beach. My advice to all....head to the main beach area at Adrenaline Beach in order to have a great day of swimming.

The Adrenaline beach side has always been rocky and rough.  We have had a clamshell on that side where it's not too bad.  The best beaches are Nellie's and Columbus Cove.  Both are calm and not rocky.  When you get off the ship at the end of the pier, go right if you want to swim.  The beaches on the right side are all nice and calm.  Going left gets you the rough water.  We've been to Labadee at least 7 or 8 times since 2010.

This was our 1st time here. You would have thought someone would have mentioned this to us before we got off the ship.

One member of our party is handicapped, so this particularly tough on her.

Before we go anywhere I do research.  There's lots of info on CC about ports.  They do hand out maps, but I've never noticed whether they say anything or not.  We never go to any of the port talks or anything anymore but those are focused on excursions and shopping.

  • 1 month later...

I've been there before when you could swim at Adrenaline Beach (not that you would want to without water shoes -- it's way too rocky).  Wind and currents can change from one day to the next.

Just because swimming wasn't allowed that day doesn't mean it is never allowed there.
