Yes, on HAL your shipboard credit can be used to pay for gratuities.

The exception is NCL

The OP is posting on the HAL board so one would assume they are asking about a HAL cruise.  This IS the HAL board, after all 😉 

 

That being the case, the answers they have received are correct and yes, it can be used.

I realized that after I posted. but still the question is more broad than just HAL and deserves a more comprehensive answer.

 

I did learn from a post that the answer would be no for NCL.

Thanks for the replies. I rebooked my HA cruise where I get $1200 in OBC. I came out much better than the booking with prepaid gratuities.

Just got off a NCL cruise and they also used OBC for gratuities

Only if it is refundable obc, if it is nonrefundable obc (which most often it is) then it cannot be used for gratuities on NCL.
