Confused about cancellation policy

The percentage is of the cruise fare. My understanding is that port taxes, the DSC if pre-paid, etc. are either not charged or are refunded (in the case of the prepaid DSC). But if you have reserved excursions, air fare, etc. through NCL they apply that percentage to those items as well.

So if you paid $699 per person, the cancellation fee would be $174.75 per person at 25%. So you have to add that amount to the new fare to see if it's worth it.

I would call them to make sure they can't move you to a better category at the same price.

Avoid the cancellation/rebook penalty like the plague.

The closer to sailing the greater the penalty !

That 25% initial penalty is on the cruise fare unless stated otherwise.

Call and see if NCL can move you up one or more category of cabin level - no charge

That or perhaps give you OBC  (25% of the fare difference i.e. fare drop $400 pp get $100 pp OBC)

Options being acceptable to you (caution one time adjustment only)

As for the port charges/fees; DSC; gratuities and shore excursions - totally refundable if outright cancelling

-OR- can be applied to the new booking.

Air fare would need a discussion with NCL - terms and conditions with the airline.

There has not been much info/discussion if any on this.

We booked a European cruise a few years back 2 months out at what we thought was a great price.  Sure enough, the price dropped like a rock 2 weeks after we booked.  Our PCC, through whom we booked the cruise, got us bumped up from a GTY/SA Inside to a Balcony cabin!!

If you booked through a TA then ask them for OBC or a cabin-type upgrade.  Same deal if you booked through a PCC.  If none of the above apply then call NCL Reservations & ask them.  If you're Gold or higher Latitudes status remind them of your past loyalty (It DOES work!!).

Good luck!!

NCL’s pricing is going back to its old ways with deepening fare cuts after final payment ... NCL was going to stop doing it, but market forces compel them to do so.  Unless you want a specific cabin, I would wait to book next until well after final payment.  Go ahead an book air tix and have a back up, but through watching certain cruise prices, there is little risk on sell outs before final payment.  Just get in there before the upgrades start.
