Traffic from San Fran port to Oakland airport

We are flying out of Oakland airport after our cruise on Monday sept 23.  We have a 2:20 pm flight.  Plan to use Uber.   How bad is the traffic on a Monday morning? Will we be going opposite of the commuters on the bay bridge?  Trying to determine if we need to do the early walk off around 8 am or if we should wait a bit till after rush hour traffic clears.  Thank you.

Traffic is always bad in San Francisco, but that being said if you want to be at Oakland Airport by about noon, barring any really strange events you will be fine getting off the ship by the time everyone must be off....9:30am?? Yes, you will be anti commute, but once on the Oakland side it's different traffic flow. Leaving earlier would probably be counterproductive.    You are giving yourself 2 1/2 plus hours and if all goes smoothly you will be at OAK very early.  Have lunch and relax when you get there!

I would not worry about an early walk off as you have plenty of time.

If you get off at 9:00 AM you could be there in 45 minutes to 60  minutes.  As mentioned sometimes there can be some traffic congestion so even allowing 90 minutes would get you there at 10:30 AM.

That time shouldn't be an issue for a normal departure.  Absent any unusual traffic crashes.  You will be in that "Golden Hour" leaving the City when traffic actually moves pretty quick.  Once you get across the bridge there are all sorts of surface streets to get you to the airport if there's a crash on the 880.

Good thing you’re flying out of Oakland. SFO is a mess! We leave for Barcelona next Tuesday and there’s a good chance we won’t make our connection in Charlotte.  I get stressed as it is about big trips. Now we have this to worry about. Not too worried about making the ship as we’re going two nights early.

Yes, southwest let us change without any fare changes at the last minute.  So glad we did that.  Good luck on making it out.   Thanks all  for the replies.

I'm a little worried about SFO also we fly Wednesday for Istanbul and then on to Zurich.  Luckily we have a three hour layover at Istanbul.  Isn't the construction suppose to be over by end of this month?

The news articles say Sept 27 barring any construction delays.   Fingers crossed for you!

We always fly in and out of Oakland - a much easier airport to navigate and fewer delayed/cancelled planes. We take Uber/Lyft and give ourselves an hour for traveling. Our flights are generally between 1:00 and 2:00, and we sometimes get there before we can even check our bags (four hours)!!! Traffic varies, but there's always a delay somewhere...

Depending on our pre-cruise plans, we often take an evening flight to Oakland the night before the cruise, stay in one of the Oakland airport hotels, and then take Uber/Lyft to the port in the morning. Again, it seems to take about one hour. The biggest traffic jam the last time was waiting in line to get into the port area. We arrived around 1:00 like I guess most other people did!!!
