Miami Hotel Recommendation

Hi All,

 

Looking for a pre-cruise recommendation.  We are flying in the day before to MIA and cruise leaves from Miami the next day.  We will have 4 kids with us(age 7, 4, 3 and 7 months).  Looking for a hotel with a pool and restaurant to make it easy.  Hopefully easily assessable from both the airport and cruise port as we plan to Uber everywhere.  Looks like Marriott Biscayne Bay might work.

Lots of hotels  near the port with a pool & short distance  to walk to restaurants

I would also look at the Doubletree next door to the Marriott - both offer some rooms with a view of the port and the pool at the Doubletree is great!  6 passengers and bags in an UberXL will be a squeeze - you might need to split into 2 UberX cars.

Anything near the port works. Port is 7-miles from Miami airport so that is fine. Anything in the area will have a place to eat short walking distance or in the hotel.

We just stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites Midtown Miami, they have rooms that sleep 6, a nice pool area and the hotel is still pretty new.

We used their shuttle to the put $7 pp and I think they had reduced children prices, took about 10 mins to get to the port.

From the airport again it took about 10-15 mins, a taxi cost $38 buy Uber would have cheaper.

Around the hotel there is Mcdonalds, Denny's, Wendy's and Taco Bell and shopping behind the hotel about 5 mins walk

We spend about one week in Miami each year before a cruise.

 

Not knowing your price point that you want to spend on a room I will give you several selections.

 

They are all within about one mile of each other.

 

In your case I would look at the Hampton Inn and the Intercontinental for starters.  Connecting rooms might be a good option.

 

Close to the Port:

 

Intercontinental

Marriott Marquis (about six years old)

Epic Hotel (priciest of the ones I am mentioning).  Avoid a room on a lower floor as you may hear quite a bit of noise from a nearby bridge.

Holiday Inn (some like it but I would recommend the other two)

Hyatt (I like the location better of the first three even though it is close by)

 

These hotels are about five minutes from the port.  Near restaurants and CVS Pharmacy which is good to pick up last minute items and near a Whole Foods.  

 

Just a couple of minutes further from the port

 

Mandarin Oriental (priciest of the ones mentioned).  Private man made beach.

 

About 10 minutes from the port or maybe 15 depending on traffic but relatively close so no worries.

Conrad Hilton

Hyatt Centric

 

East Miami (relative new hotel so doesn't get mentioned much and is near the new Brickell Centre.  More on Brickell in a moment.)  Also the SLS Lux Brickell is nearby.

 

And then just another few minutes away 

 

Four Seasons (like Mandarin a bit pricier then most I've listed) but in a very quiet location.

Hampton Inn (a lot of value here.  It is not a full service hotel but it is a nice Hampton and includes breakfast)

 

The last group of hotels I have mentioned starting with Mandarin Oriental and ending with Hampton Inn are near lots of restaurants.

 

There is Mary Brickell Village and right near there are lots of restaurants and also near two CVS Pharmacies (JW Marriott right next to a 24 hour one) and near Publix (there are two in the area) where you can pick up lots of last minute items.

 

Then there is the new Brickell Centre which opened last in 2016.  Lots of stores and restaurants.

 

I have stayed at some of these hotels and have been inside each and everyone.

 

Again, they represent a wide range of price points.

For our last cruise out of Miami, we stayed at the Hotel YVE Miami. It’s a trendy, modern boutique hotel right across the street from Bayside Marketplace and a very short Uber ride to the port of Miami. We were given vouchers for complimentary drinks at the hotel’s restaurant / bar but other members of our group were given complimentary breakfast vouchers instead. We also requested a high floor room with a view of the port, and we watched our ship come in early in the morning, right from our bed. Pretty neat. 
 

This hotel was priced considerably cheaper than other hotels in the area which made me wonder if there was anything wrong with it, but there wasn’t. For our one night stay pre-cruise, it was perfect.

Keith,

As far as having a great view of port (specifically Carnival in our case) and value, what would you recommend?  I was leaning toward Intercontinental but the rate that far out (next October) was north of $300/night for a bay facing room.  I’d be willing to pay $200-$250 for a very nice view/room.

soonernstlouis, for the view I would have said Intercontinental.  Another one to look at pricing for would be the Marriott Marquis and they will have nice views and it is a newer hotel.  They might have a better price point than what you saw for Intercontinental.
