Classic drink surcharge question

We booked a Celebrity cruise  ( mid October ) And received a classic drink program and was told we were paying $14 extra per day per person and then our travel agent gave us the extra money back as shipboard credit  to cover that extra cost.
so now I heard on a podcast that said they were going to squash that $14 a day per person and either upgrade us to premuim drink pkg or adjust our cruise price bookings ....did anyone experience this and does it make sense to upgrade??

You will be upgraded to the Premium beverage package, no other options.

Otherwise, you can contact the TA you booked with (or Celebrity if you booked directly with them) and ask for a repricing of your cruise. A new promotion started today, which includes all four perks (prepaid gratuities, 300$OBC, unlimited wifi and Premium beverage package) for the normal price of two perks. You might be able to snag all perks at your current price, at just a minor fare increase or possibly even at a lower price, since the 14$pppd beverage package fare increase doesn't exist anymore. It's worth a try!

Exact thing happened to us.   We've always been happy with the Classic Pkg and weren't happy we had to pay $200pp extra for the "free" perk.    In early Nov we booked with a group rate (big online TA in TX) and got a great deal.  TA tried to get the extra charge removed.   We would have had to re-price under the current pricing.  Since the "group" booking and perks have changed and the fare is now double, we'll keep our current booking as is.  Even tho our cruise isn't until November,  Cruise Planner history is showing "Premium" Pkg which is unusual as generally when you book with a TA, it won't show in the "history" until shortly before the cruise.
