Le Havre Port

Anyone out there that can help 🙂 we were originally going to rent a car but our friends might not be coming. Would love an excursion you don't have to drive hours to get too and maybe 

see some pretty scenery and get some lunch and people watch? We are going to Paris after for a couple of days, and neither are really history buffs so don't have to do the Normandy stuff. Thanks for any ideas we leave in June!! 🙂

Find another couple or two to share the cost and head to Honfleur. It's a sea side community, lots of great dining places along the waterway - outdoor seating to people watch, quaint shops [bough ta lot of chocolate on our last trip] along narrow streets.

Le Havre isn't as quaint as Honfleur, but you can still get a nice little taste of France there. We enjoyed our visit to the Museum of the Modern Art. It has a lot of Impressionist paintings. We also toured a couple of churches and went to a market.

Honfleur is a very attractive fishing/tourist harbour. lined with bars and cafes. 15 miles / 30 minutes from your ship.

Great for a lazy day.

But probably simplest by taxi - arrange for the driver to return for you at an agreed time.

 

If you prefer to rent a car, then head a further 10 miles / 20 minutes west past Honfleur on the D513 coast road to the twin-towns of Trouville (fishing harbour) and, on the other side of the harbour, Deauville (up-market resort town).

If you have the time and inclination  you might want to follow your nose further along the coast to Ouistreham, a pleasant ferry-town and the eastern flank of the D-Day beaches, 25 miles / 60 minutes from Deauville. Or turn around when time or weather or inclination dictate.

If you do go as far as Ouistreham, for the first part of the return drive to Honfleur / Le Havre  cross Pegasus Bridge at Benouville and use the cross-country lanes (GPS initially set for Bavent) to avoid the signed route via the main bridge on the A13 Caen ring road, which is often congested.

Use remaining time to drop into Honfleur and head back to Le Havre from there an hour (including wiggle-time) before you're due to return the car.
