They are controlled by Quebec, the Canadian federal liberal party "laurentian elite" and they used to get taxpayer funding, way to cozy with government.

The mods do a pretty good job keeping US politics out of the threads, and posters have been respectful for the most part of the requirement for non-political posts. While I fully understand your feelings with respect to AC's refusal to refund your fare, it has nothing to do with Quebec or with federal Liberal politics. BTW, AC has been offered no bailout to date by the current government, and the last party to do so was the Conservatives under Harper back in 2009.

To you all""!

Driving is the really only way to really see the land, eat the food, gossip with the locals, read the local papers, know the animals, visit the museums and learn about the local history - a beer is the perfect opening to a conversation.

We have been to every province and territory in Canada a minimum of 2x (and the ferry both ways to Newfoundland and Labrador 2x).  Been to Inuvik on the Arctic Ocean and been on a drill rig up there, oh my. There are only 5 states we have not been to in dearest America. Yes we drove 5 weeks from Toronto to the Mexican Border with America and back up to Toronto - we have been through the heart of Mississippi on the back roads and the Delta south of Memphis. We know America very well.

As much as I enjoy cruising, it does Not in any way compare to a driving/fly/drive trip in North America or Europe or elsewhere. The more I drive, the less I wish to cruise.

Cruising is good for a "drive by" experience, but it can not and will not replace a driving trip.

I wish all of us to have many more cruises and driving trips in our future - but time will tell.

Our hearts and prayers are with the dearest folks and animals in the path of the hurricane Laura, oh my. Our beloved town Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, was the center of Katrina's eye wall and so much of it was destroyed in 2005. We are so distressed with the incoming hurricane, we saw first hand the devastation of Katrina. Blessings to all.

Thanks Fouremco!  Sometimes the memory does slip with advancing age!

Guessing a post has been removed... to the OP, I understand how you feel but the cards are stacked against you.  This is a pandemic and all common sense has disappeared.  The Government has supported the Non-refund policy and it seems the credit card companies are onboard with that.  Hopefully you can use your credit.

Positive news - I have received my full refund for the cancelled Air Canada flight from Toronto to Newark.

I moved up the dispute food chain - from Air Canada, to Master Card dispute resolution who failed, then to the Bank of Montreal  Executive Level Concern - Specialist, Executive Resolution Office.

This level indicated that the substantive documents I provided and importantly, the legal information from the Canadian Air Travelers Rights legislation and the US DOT made the refund quick and easy for them.

A key point they indicated was that Air Canada policy, policy, does not over rule legislation and law.

The funds were in my Master Card account 2 days after I called the Executive Level.

Sooo, as I have said before, never give up and never give in.

Quitters never win and winners never quit.

Thanks to all who posted.

Fouremco, indeed.

You are so right, persistence and knowledge aids the consumer.

I will continue with pursuing my claim against Air Canada with the US DOT with the objective of ensuring Air Canada is denied access to the US.

I have rarely ever have dealt with a more arrogant organization.

Fight on consumers!

BTW, we have been to Canada a few times.  We have loved the scenery.  But, we haven't done the driving.  😎

Oh Boy --- Here's a quick lesson in " Driving in Quebec "

Forget looking at scenery while driving in Quebec !!!

1- Make sure your Life Insurance policy specifically covers everywhere in "La Province de Quebec " ( Province of Quebec ).

2- Speed limit signs are just " suggestions "  and enforced only on vehicles with out of province license plates.

3- Red light --Stop if you have time or unless you are going somewhere , but , honk before going through ; Yellow light--- speed up ; green light --slow down and proceed at your own risk .

4- If you are stopped by the Police , one of these might ( ?? ) work

A-- Tell him/her you are in a hurry to get to a bathroom. They probably never heard that one before.

B-- Hide whatever you shouldn't have in your possession under the front seat. They would never think to look there .

C-- Mention that the Montreal Canadiens are your favorite team. Hope like hell the Canadiens are having a great season or                  your ticket will be doubled.
