All of these replies to the original thread.......and no one has mentioned the outrageous pricing? Just wondering. Nothing to see here, just move along.

Maybe because some are willing to pay the prices they are now charging.  It is a choice, not being forced into it.

As pricing is pretty outrageous for many of the available cruises, maybe the posters here didn't think it was worth mentioning.

Exactly, if an individual is willing to pay it, nothing to see here, just move along.

Our July 2020 7N Alaska cruise in A1 with 2 perks was $5382 refundable - cancelled

Our July 2021 7N Alaska cruise in A1 with 3 perks was $5147 refundable - cancelled

Our July 2022 7N Alaska cruise in A1 with 3 perks is $6632 refundable or $6120 nonrefundable

So why did we book the 3-perk $6120 NR when it is 14% more than the 2-perk 2020 R fare and 19% more than the 3-perk 2021 R fare?  Several reasons - in no particular order:

  • We have not sailed since September 2019 and by 2022 we will have avoided spending well over $10K in cruise fares in 2020 and 2021
  • We were able to grab our choice of any of the 5 aft cabins with larger balconies
  • We had $500 FCC that would have otherwise expired
  • We had $150 OBC from on-board-booking that would have otherwise expired
  • The NR fare was $512 less than the R fare while our carried over on-board-booking deposit was only $200 - a no brainer
  • While there are no completely comparable other cruise line cabins and fares, a similar Princess cruise with a Club Class Mini is $6246 R fare; but we enjoy Celebrity more than Princess
  • We will continue to review pricing and can reprice if prices drop between now and April 2022
  • We can cancel or rebook in April 2022 with a maximum loss of only $200

Happy eventual cruising to all
