Atlantic Canada Posted August 17, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2022 We are sailing from New York’s Brooklyn pier in November and want to overnight near the pier the night before the cruise. Can anyone recommend a hotel near the pier that is reasonably priced and is clean, safe and at least reasonably quiet? The other option would be to stay at LaGuardia for the night and taxi over to the pier the next day. If we were to consider that can anyone recommend a hotel at the airport that also fits the above criteria. Also any idea of cost from the airport to the pier? in the past we have stayed in Newark and went from there but want to fly into LaGuardia this time. Any help would be appreciated
Tedferg Posted August 17, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 17, 2022 Check out the East Coast Departures Board.
navybankerteacher Posted August 18, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2022 Check out the Holiday Inn Express on Water Street in lower Manhattan. Reasonable price, safe neighborhood, comfortable a couple of blocks away from the ferry which takes you across to right next to Brooklyn Cruise Terminal - lots of great restaurants - actually about as close to the pier as anything in Brooklyn. Staying out by LGA would be dismal - leaving you with a fairly long cab ride in the morning.
George C Posted August 18, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2022 Loads of restaurants in lower Manhattan from high end to plenty of fun pubs, also walking distance to World Trade Center memorial and Frances tavern.

I think what everyone here has inferred but not actually said is that no, there is no such hotel in the immediate vicinity that would be recommended. Its a slowly gentrifying, very industrial area with not a ton of tourism infrastructure. You will have to either stay closer to the Brooklyn Bridge area or as others have suggested lower Manhattan to be geographically "close". If its just a bed this isn't a terrible strategy but there are more enjoyable options in Brooklyn or lower Manhattan. If your ship is departing on a weekday there will be traffic between LGA and Red Hook so there would be that to consider-- leave LGA mid day to try and avoid the worst of it. Hotels at LGA are sort of lackluster. Closest to the terminals there is a full service Marriott that I can vouch for years ago and also a newer Aloft hotel nearby. Taxi will be on the meter so will vary-- could be a lot more than an Uber if there is traffic.
navybankerteacher Posted August 18, 2022 #6 Share Posted August 18, 2022 I should have pointed out that the Holiday Inn Express on Water Street in lower Manhattan is, for all practical purposes, within walking distance of the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. It is perhaps three blocks from the Manhattan side ferry landing, then after a perhaps 15 minute ride, you get off about 100 yards from the terminal. Atlantic Canada Posted August 18, 2022 Author #8 Share Posted August 18, 2022 This sounds good. I know you mention a ferry near the hotel. We wouldn’t be able to do a ferry but is the trip from the hotel to the cruise terminal a reasonable option?

Sure - taxi or Uber should be well under 30 minutes in late morning - via Brooklyn Battery tunnel or Brooklyn Bridge. But the ferry should not be a challenge - no stairs, a very short taxi ride from the hotel - and minimal walking (on level sidewalk) on the Brooklyn side).
