Why did they stop giving you your S&S when you

P/D were going to their cabins early long before FTTF was introduced. As for officially being introduced. Priority Luggage is a joke these days.

Everyone was going to their cabins before FTTF. It officially became a D/P perk when FTTP was introduced. :classic_cool:

I disagree 😉, it was a perk long beforehand. Although it's pointless to call it a perk these days compared to (back in the day).

Two questions, and if they were answered earlier in the thread my apologies for re-visiting:

1. Given that passports are not the only method of identification for cruisers, how does Carnival get your picture for the S&S card? I did not think the Department of State passport database was available for private companies.

2. How does Carnival establish your S&S account if one chooses cash?

BTW neither of the above apply to me but I would think someone fitting one of these categories would gum up the works a bit.

And you are the one making it a big much a do about nothing. Carnival analyzed a practice, saw changes that could be made that would make the process more efficient, tested it and implemented it. That's what a good business does. They aren't changing it now because some people (who don't have the same amount of data available as the company) can't understand the change.

Nobody cares.    I bet there is not one person here posting here about how they noticed any difference. Most normal people are just excited to be on board and don't care about getting their keys. Isn't it funny how all companies get their passengers on before the ship leaves.  Must be magic. Every line is different.   Oooh a novel concept

The ships don't have as many cameras as you think they do and there are many blind spots.

I found this out the hard way when theft occurred in my room (unrelated to the card issue)

i don’t expect they have many in passenger hallways but I expect there would be cameras that cover entrances and exits.
the problem likely wasn’t that the camera didn’t cover your room door. They likely saw who was in and out of your hallway but without knowing an exact time it would be hard to figure out who it was.
In this case you’d have the cameras showing who was in the hallway during a certain period. . And I would 100% guarantee there are cameras around anywhere you’d get money out. And in the casino. It would be easier to identify the person responsible than it would be for a situation Iike yours.

1. They can still take your pic at check-in if you're using a birth certificate or if they can't get (or don't like) the pic from your passport.  But they do realize time savings from the 90%(ish) of people who use passport.

2. They block or severely limit your ability to charge your S&S until you've made a cash deposit at the kiosks or Guest Services.  Then if you charge more than you deposited, they block you from charging until you deposit more.

Okay, I'll bite. We have noticed the difference. On many of our cruises it took 5 minutes or more to locate our cards. One time in New York, after checking in at the VIP Lounge, and after standing at the desk waiting for 5 minutes, the lady came back to us and told us that she couldn't find our cards, and to please sit back down while they continued to search for them. 15 minutes later we got our cards. Priority boarding had started while we were waiting. Not the end of the world, but irritating. So yes, we like the new system much better! :classic_cool:

I found the list of VIFP benefits from the last major change (when Diamond was added).  The original benefit was "priority check-in and boarding", no mention of early cabin access, for Platinum/Diamond.

FTTF (including early cabin access) became a thing after, at which time Carnival added early cabin access to Platinum/Diamond benefits so that when P/D complained anybody could now buy the benefits P/D had earned, Carnival could say "you're keeping all those benefits PLUS we're now able to give you a new benefit with early cabin access."

Even better when the computers on land are down which occasionally happens. Everything slowed to a crawl. Better to get on the ship ASAP.

Regardless of why they are doing that they are now, I always wondered why they wouldn't just print/activate them on the spot.  Card printers are fast and activating them is also fast.

Cards are a waste of plastic and obsolete. Someday Carnival will progress. Meanwhile, why invest in old technology?

Check out this old thread.

Best thing about fttf

Eons ago before FTTF came to be the question was put to John Heald before he and CC became unassociated😁.  As some CC members reported going to their cabins early being A PERK. Their rooms were made ready beforehand. John stated while it was an unspoken perk it was indeed a perk to be enjoyed by their most distinguish repeated cruisers.  That thread should be floating around here or other sites somewhere.

You and Patty enjoy your upcoming cruise .

It seems to me that if the card could be misplaced from the clerk working check-in, it could just as easily be misplaced from the steward delivering it to the room.  If it takes someone an extra fifteen minutes to find a misplaced card, I see no reason why it matters whether the someone looking for the misplaced card is a clerk on shore or a steward on the ship.  Either way, it’s an inefficiency that gums up the works…
