Just me with another quick note - Thirty years ago today was Hurricane Andrew.  I was working for telco in Florida that fateful day.  Changed forever how we did our job.

I remember Hurricane Andrew being in 1992.  Our DS was moving into his dorm in 1992 for his freshman year at Michigan.  His roommate's name?  Andrew.  And he was from south Florida having just experienced category 5 Hurricane Andrew less than 2 weeks earlier.  Starting his first days of college must have been a snap after what he'd just experienced.  😬

Ah, now I can place Andrew.  My family was incredibly lucky.  My brother spent most of his working life as an executive for Eastern Airlines.  His wife was a Mathematics  Professor at the University of Miami.  In 1990, almost exactly the same time Eastern went belly up, Pam was offered a position as President of Grinell College in Iowa.  They sold their house and moved in time for the 1990-91 school year.  When Andrew came their former house was just about a total loss.

did you ever go to the Charcoal Pit  on 202 in Wilmington? Great ice cream sundaes. I think they still make the Kitchen Sink( 16 scoops ).

When we flew to Wilmington to look for a house, our flights were all delayed (just like today) and we arrived very late.  The only place open was the Charcoal Pit. First meal in Delaware.  We used to go to one near the Acme and Bradlee's store on Highway 7.

Good morning from Schiphol, where I’m waiting for a flight to Copenhagen. Our flight landed on the Polderbaan, the outermost runway, and when it touched down, the flight display indicated that we were still five miles from the terminal. I feel like I walked about that much more inside the terminal.
