Is Doyles still operating on top of OPT? My son wants to take me to Lunch precruise at 12 noon on Tuesday, then I can check in for cruise @2pm. Ship sails at 4pm.

No ….Doyles is now James Squire’s Landing  Doyles went a couple of years ago..whoops..plus two years of covid…keep forgetting that. 😱 They reckoned their business dropped off by half every day there was a ship in and as there were more and more ships coming, they pulled the pin.

James Squire Landing looks good on website, will be a good alfresco lunch spot. Thanks young Graham.

Absolute worst case scenario if a guest turned up to the terminal with  no check in docs electronic or printed ( apart from passport/id)  the check in agent would be able to process them no problem, The green lane status  ( and all other relevant details )would already be in their system . No way the cruise line would deny a guest boarding just because their phone or tablet  did not work in the terminal.

It may not be as quick or smooth as the Medallion thing is supposed to be but certainly not worth stressing over.

Yes, nobody would be denied boarding, as long as they can prove vaxx status.

To have green lane status for the easiest path through check-in, you need to show your green lane boarding pass as you enter the terminal. Otherwise it goes to plan B via paperwork, cabin number or photo ID etc. Correct, nothing to get stressed about as there will be plenty there doing it the old fashioned way. Still, the reward for swearing at the app while getting all the info into it is that easier path through the terminal.

For the one cruise we have done that way, check-in has only been matched by one other - when your terminal supervisor escorted us up to check-in, then through to the gangway to meet up with Ovation's suite genie.

If they send them Australia post who knows when they would turn up. I left something at a motel last year. The motel posted it, that day express post, to the place we were staying a few days later. It turned up there 8.5 months later.

I'm waiting on another package that was ordered mid-July and is noted as having been picked up by Australia Post. It hadn't arrived by the time we boarded Coral last Saturday.

Thankfully we don't have those issues with mail. A few days late with congestion at times, but nothing lost in the system. If nothing shows, you request a new one be available for pick-up in the terminal.

It isn't because of the mail, but the ships are the only place that sets them up outside of head office. The programmed medallions are taken from the ship to the terminal before check-in opens, the same as the way the cards were done before them.

OK, serious question for those currently or recently on Coral Princess or others in the know....for a 4pm sailing at the OPT, what time would check in close?

It works when you pay for the top cabin. Ovation Star class suites are very much red carpet from go to whoa - at a price. For check-in, medallion was just as quick, but for pretty much everyone.

I ordered a couple of things for christmas pressies last year for two of the grandkids, plenty of time, items were in stock, ordered early december, maybe 5th? They arrived 7th January!!!! I ended up buying the kids choccy stuff just so I could wrap something up for Christmas day, and wrote a note that their real pressy was on its way.

I will drop my suitcase at 12.30pm, then go over to James Squire Landing Gastro pub for lunch with my son and after 3 or 4 ciders and a feed head over to check in around 2pm to 2.30pm. Should be fine. I don't see my son very often, he is 4 hours away from me and often overseas with his job.  Thank you for your concern.😁

G'day All,

Thanks for all your replies. Has been fantastic. Although, as a former Australia Post employee, I have been rather hurt by all the comments re delayed parcels!!

I think the plan will be to use my phone as a wi-fi hotspot and connect our tablets through our Optus network. Think this should solve the problem.

As both our phones are getting on, their built-in redundancy should kick in by this time next year and we will need new phones that will be upgraded to Android 11, 12 or whatever, so it will no longer be a problem.

Thanks for all your advice. Hope to see you on board at some stage

.

Paul

We often catch up with family at our regular precruise place at the Ship Inn, nice pizza, good selection of beers, close to station and OPT

Sounds good. I have cancelled the Holiday Inn at KX and now booked in Monday night precruise at the Sydney Harbour Marriott, bottom of Pitt St @ Circular Quay.  Stayed there back in 2019 precruise. They have a Seniors price $260, which is a lot cheaper than even the Rydges Sydney Harbour (old Holiday Inn) which looks a basic room for $330.  They whack the price up when there is a cruise ship in, rogues.

Let us know how it goes. It is the only one of those walking distance hotels near the quay that we are yet to stay at, I was going to book Rydges for convenience, but the Marriott is higher rated and cheaper, and I booked there instead. Still a very convenient spot for pre-cruise.

Will do Geoff. For what they are Rydges are expensive even at their Priority Guest Rewards price. Their harbour one is way OTT as are their World Square and Sydney Central ones, all around $300. Stayed in them, pretty ordinary.

Plenty of cafes around the Quay, I often go to City Extra, no needed to buy the $50 buffet breakfast at the Marriottt, half of which I do not eat.
