San Pedro Port terminal questions

Few questions:

We are driving from PHX to San Pedro for our Celebrity cruise on September 24th. Plan on taking I 10 to 110 to port.  Anything we should know about this route?  Pros/Cons?  It will be a Saturday,  traffic concerns?

This will be our first time to this port and have no idea what the procedures are. We have a 11:30 check in time, if we get there early (lets say 11)will we have to wait outside for doors to open?  If doors are open but check in has not started, is there someplace to sit until we get in line for check in?

Do they ever start check in early, if so, any idea what time?   Do they really just check you in at the time slot you were assigned, or does everyone just get in line all at the same time?

Thank you in advance for any answers to my questions!

Use Waze for guidance and navigation-- it can be a lifesaver in LA. Will react to traffic conditions faster than Google Maps and reroute you around traffic in real time. Has saved me hours driving in LA and I use it every time I'm there even if I know where I'm going.

The port #92/93 at San Pedro is an easy one to sail from. Lot's of parking. You should have no trouble getting into the terminal around your check in time...good chances are they aren't strict with timing....lot's of seating inside if you even need it.

Driving...Don't go over the bridge...as you exit the freeway follow the good signage to the port parking lot. You'll see how easy this is.

I'll second the idea of using the Waze app...

Saturday mornings should not be a problem...but, as always, you never know where an accident or construction or other oddball occurrence could affect your drive.  Waze will give you very current directions based on current traffic conditions and wil re-route you if things change to always give you the best route.

As to getting there early, when we cruised on RCCL Navigator about three months ago, we got there early--10:15--and were ushered right onboard!  But, even if they keep you there, it's not bad at all..they will bring you into the terminal to a seating area and give you a card indicating a boarding group...You can wait there comfortably until they call your group...

As posted, use a GPS program for travel.  Don't plan your route in advance as somebody can decide to jump off an overpass and that route will become a parking lot for hours.  Check Google maps and get a feel for other ways to get there.  We sailed from there in July and had a 12:30 check in.  We got there about 12:00 got in line and just kept moving until we were on board.  It didn't seem that anybody checked our boarding time.  This was even when they still required pier side COVID testing for the young ones and checked to make sure everybody had tested within 72 hours.  The longest wait was once all the testing was done was when we got inside the terminal.  The check in seemed to take forever.

have never sailed with Celebrity but sail out for San Pedro fairly often.

As everyone has said use the map program (I use google maps but whichever you prefer) when I moved from AZ back to LA people asked me about the traffic...it isn't necessarily worse here but It is less predictable you can have bad traffic any day, any time, however there are lots of options to reroute...I would personally start with the 10 to the 91 to either the 710 or 110 & then let my GPS reroute me as it adjusts to traffic.

Princess who we regularly cruise with will start boarding shortly after disembarkation is done...we aim for getting there about 10:30 usually as we like to have the vacation start as soon as possible. The will let people in regardless of boarding times & then will board depending on status but everyone gets on quickly...sometimes we have been delayed (our last sailing they had their annual surprise Coast Guard inspection so we had to wait until everything was cleared & one time we were delayed getting off because they (maybe immigration or police) had to escort someone with a fugitive warrant off first) mostly it is quick & easy but like any travel be prepared for the unexpected & don't let it ruin your trip.

If USC is playing at home you have major traffic concerns. Besides, there is no need to go that far up. Look at the map below.

Just after the Outlets at Cabazon, the 10 splits to the 10 and 60. Take the 10, 60, 91, 710...  much simpler than it sounds, but it really iseasy.

I would try to get to port early.  I think there are 3 ships in San Pedro that day so traffic/parking is going to be a zoo!  Our ship (Sapphire) won't even be able to use either berth 92 or 93; we have to use 46.  Someone on CC wrote that the three berths will only be used three times this fall.

Regarding berth 46, it is quite a long ways south of the LA World Cruise Center and berths 92/93. Another post said there's a shuttle between the Cruise Center and berth 46. Do you know if we have to check in with the cruise line at the LA World Cruise Center, or do we have the option of being dropped off with our luggage directly at berth 46? (I'm on Regent Mariner departing 10/3.)
