Well 5 days out and woke up to what i did not want to happen. Tropical Storm 9 as of this morning is scheduled to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday the day my wife and arrive for our pre-cruise stay. I know it is to early to tell but hope that it stays west.

Pretty confidant that the Getaway will be able to arrive and depart Safely on Thursday the 29th, but may need to adjust out precruise stay. Anyone else thinking about adjusting there stays the night before?

I don’t know how you are confident that getaway will be able to arrive or depart safely on Thursday with an active hurricane in the middle or even off to the side of Florida.

First, there will be 20-30 foot seas on the east coast of Florida starting Wednesday afternoon until about Friday morning. All this while she is trying to traverse her way from New York.

Second, a lot of people are flying in, there will be thousands of canceled flights over two days. many of these flights booked with NCL air. NCL would have to (long gasp) refund these people if they miss the ship.

My thoughts on this is the the cruise will be shortened to 7 possibly 8 nights with a prorated refund for the unused nights. Leaving Friday or Saturday is more realistic at this point.

I’ve been watching the models and they all shifted over the state. Now that we are within 7 days, this hurricane is more predicted and I’m afraid this is inevitable.

Also for your record, I have my degree in atmospheric science.

Since you're cruising out in a few days, you should definitely follow along on this CC board (if you don't already):

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/305-hurricane-zone/

I'm hoping for the best for you! And for those in the path of the hurricane...we're getting ready to mobilize our on the ground folks as of Tuesday. My work life hasn't gotten too busy yet, but I'm afraid this afternoon or Monday morning, it'll be going from 0 - 120 lickety split.

Maybe just optimistic, the Getaway is traveling from New york with no passengers from new york leaving Tuesday and arriving into port Canaveral Thursday at 10am. If the storm arrives coming from the west on tuesday around 2am as predicted hopeful thinking would be by thursday afternoon it will be far enough north. But who knows, i am not a Atmospheric Science professional, Just  lonely Casino Executive.

I'm also an optimist!! - I live in NOLA so I am a little accustomed to these type of reports... So for now, it is not a hurricane.... l'm going to focus on that and hope for the best and plan accordingly.  I am scheduled to fly in to MCO on Wednesday morning.... - we will see....

But. for now....TD not hurricane... Let's hope if fizzles to nothing.

Hope this all works out for you. We are driving down from Tega Cay, SC the following week and boarding Getaway. I will be following along!

Well, waking up this morning it is looking more and more likely our 9 night cruise will end up being an 8 or even only a 7 day cruise as the storm is set to make landfall on Wednesday the 28th. As we are scheduled to arrive Wednesday we are hoping by Tuesday NCL will advise everyone there plan for the getaway so everyone can adjust plans. There is always a risk cruising during this time of year but I always take things as they come and will make the best of it. Once I hear anything will be sure to update, if anyone has an opinion on when you feel the getaway will arrive in port Canaveral I would love to hear them

I assume the Getaway will divert to the east to avoid the storm and heads into into PC as soon as it can after the storm passes on Wednesday.  My guess is at worst it arrives in PC sometime on Thursday and you leave a bit later than expected.   Of course it all depends on the exact track.

It's the people flying in that are at risk.  Are you flying or driving from NC?

We are driving in. We planned on arriving Wednesday afternoon, but we may come a day earlier as I do not want to drive during the landfall.

Driving through a CAT 3 doesn't appeal to you, huh?  😉  I don't blame you, I think I'd be doing the same thing.

We are hoping for the best with the weather.  We fly out early Thursday morning heading to Orlando and then drive to the port.   We discussed changing our flight to late Wednesday but have decided just to keep our plans and deal with what happens.  It appears the ship will have time to get out and we hope to be on it.  Stay safe!

Since we fly in tomorrow as we are going to WDW before the cruise we will just adjust our hotel and car rental if needed.

We cruised after a hurricane hit Miami one year and the ship departed on time.

Amazed me as we had been quarantined to our hotel for the two days prior. No power, flooded lobby with trees all over the place.

We are also boarding this cruise! We are driving in today. I think my concern is deciding on if we need to make hotel reservations further south until we get to board? We’re currently booked in the cocoa beach area!

So, 3 days till boarding 2 until our drive down to Port Canaveral. Every few hours I am looking at the Storm Model and feeling a little bit better thinking that it will make landfall north of Tampa at least. Hope all that are impacted make it safe and sound.

We are almost 100% packed, everything is ready for the drive down. My wife and I will most likely leave Charlotte NC around 5am so we can hopefully arrive in Port Canaveral around 1pm, check into the hotel, and was hoping to grab a bite to eat by the port but with the Hurricane coming may not be possible. Still preparing myself to not be upset if the Getaway can't make it into Port Thursday, also going to reserve one extra night at our hotel just incase. Every day I ask my wife what's the first drink she will order once on the ship, and she still can not give me an answer lol

What a shame for everyone who was on this cruise.

But, also, what a position NCL is in ... what with a major hurricane hitting the state, the entire state under a State of Emergency,  and so much damage down in the Caribbean.

Sitting here in Florida right now, with this monster storm about to smash into us, it's difficult to even imagine a ship leaving from here, heading out on a cruise.

Sorry to all those who were scheduled to be aboard, but ...

I’m bummed about not being able to go, but we are sitting here about to get walloped by Ian so we might not have been able to go anyway.  I think a lot of people were hoping that they would just make it a 7 night and leave Saturday but then if NCL had to cancel that as well, more angry people.  Definitely a no win situation all around.

Definitely feel for you.  But, as you well know, things are pretty much going to be deteriorating in Florida for the next several days.

As much as it doesn't feel like it now, given the situation, this is probably for the best.  And think of that nice additional 25% FCC for when you're booking your next one!

We're hunkered down too ... stay safe.

Definitely no reason to be sorry here. Be safe down there!

I'm wondering if @wolft927 made the drive yesterday? The last thing Florida needs right now is tourism trying to make their ships when their coastal cities are under threat of storm surge. I wish companies would have taken the hit a few days ago and cancelled things earlier, to be honest.

So i did not, i was planning on leaving tomorrow morning. But the minute i got the email i searched to book another cruise leaving Saturday out of Miami....I booked the Symphony of the seas leaving Saturday the 1st. I usually only sail NCL but did not want to sail the Sun or the Sky..., First time on a megaship and we shall see....When life gives you lemons, make lemonade...

Believe they were starting the drive down from NC early tomorrow morning.  Hopefully we'll get news from them direct.

I agree that it would have been better for most of the passengers to have received this news earlier; but having watched the storm models for days, it's easy to understand NCL waiting to see if the predicted movement just a little more northerly, or just a little more westerly, which would then impact how the east coast would be affected, and would then, perhaps, let them make a decision to go ahead with the cruise.

Also, if the storm was quicker moving, then it wouldn't have sat over warm waters gathering even more strength.

So the decision to cancel was probably being held off until they got a really good idea of what path the storm was going to be on, and how affected the Orlando (for flights arriving) and the  PC areas were going to be.

As @gatorchinskysaid, this was a no win/no win situation for everyone! ☹️

Oh wow ... no flies on you!  Hope you enjoy the Symphony.

Looks like the weather is going to be pretty iffy for the next several days, so be careful coming down what could be a messy (or harrowing!) I-95.

Good luck and happy cruising!
