Not an expert, but my experience last year was both cash or charge to room are acceptable. I am not sure if this applies to foreign cruise, pretty sure its USD for everything?

perhaps ppl can fill me in.

Sailing Princess for the first time in December. How can I obtain chips to gamble on the table games? USD ok? Charge to room (with service charge?)? Is there a players club I should sign up for beforehand?

Thanks!

Yes, they will accept USD on the Regal out of Ft. Lauderdale.  No fee to charge room on slots but there is a fee on tables.

Does that mean you don’t need cash to play the slots? How does it work if you don’t play with cash?

Correct. If you don't play with cash you charge your onboard account for however much you want at the machine, using a pin number you set at the machine the first time you charge your account.

When you want to cash out from a machine, their are no tickets. You press a button to cash out to your player bank, where the money sits until you either withdraw it to play on another machine or withdraw it in cash with the cashier, both using the same pin number you set to charge your onboard account.

Your player bank is completely separate from your onboard account and at the end of the cruise is not applied against anything you owe on your onboard account. Unless you want to wait weeks or months for Princess to mail you a check, you must cash out your player bank with the cashier before the casino closes on the last day of the cruise.  If you do want to apply any if it to your onboard account, you have to go to Guest Services and pay the cash you just got from the cashier.

Your choice

a) Drop US$ on the table and you will be provided chips, or

b) Provide your medallion to the dealer/pit boss and ask for an amount to be charged to your on board account. You will be provided chips. Amount will net against your account credit or debit balance. No service charge. There is a limit on the amount that can be charged to your account, maybe $1,500/day. Not certain exactly. If you are a high roller then just discuss with the casino staff.

If you charge to your on board account you will automatically have a casino account. Don't know how it works for cash.

Do they provide Casino Lessons to learn each table?

Before Covid they had a session or two of free craps, roulette and blackjack lessons on the Princess cruises I was on.

Since the restart I have only seen Queens Sea Poker which is free poker at a separate table that they setup for a few hours.  Usually every second or third night.  It's a good program but I think it would benefit the casino if they brought back the craps, roulette and blackjack lessons.

Don't count on it. If they do it would be at some off hour. Don't be afraid of table games. You can most likely find instructions on line and the best way to start betting. I prefer craps. It looks difficult, but it is really very simple. It also has just about the best odds if you stay away from the middle of the table wagers.

I was on Discovery Princess two weeks ago and had asked about lessons for craps. Was told they have not yet resumed because of Covid-19.

Just a warning about the casino....they allow smoking on one side....which is, of course, a joke because smoke spreads.  If you spend an hour at the tables, your clothes will reek of smoke when you leave.  I always play the tables on cruises.....and after one night on Princess, I skipped them for the rest of the cruise.
