navybankerteacher Posted October 25, 2022 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2022 I am inclined to think the “best” restaurant anywhere would not just specialize in BBQ. While I really enjoy it, I would suggest that if someone wants a really great dining experience in Charleston near the cruise terminal, they should try High Cotton or Magnolias - both on East Bay Street, a couple of blocks from the cruise pier.

Sea saw 56 Posted July 21 #4 Share Posted July 21 Probably closest to the cruise port is Fleet Landing Restaurant. It sticks out over the water. We stayed at a hotel just across the street a couple years ago. The food was good, it was a fun atmosphere. We were in Charleston for a week and ate there two nights for dinner. It was not terribly expensive either. We ate several different types of seafood.
caribe123 Posted July 21 #5 Share Posted July 21 (edited) Not close to the port but the best seafood imho is across the bridge in Mr. Pleasant. The Wreck of the Richard and Charlene known locally as The Wreck. On Haddrell Street in Mt Pleasant BTW we live at the beach 80 miles north of Charleston and go fairly often. CaribbeanBound Posted July 22 #6 Share Posted July 22 Can't understand why BBQ has been mentioned and Lewis isn't mentioned. By far the best Brisket and Beef Ribs this side of Houston! I drive 4.5 hours each way twice a year just to eat lunch there! Yes, the other restaurants mentioned are worthy (though we have had mixed results at Fleet Landing). You really need to experience it. 4 different sauces pepper vinegar mustard based heavy tomato light tomato Also SC barbecue hash (not a corned beef hash) which is unique to SC
wgeddings Posted August 2 #8 Share Posted August 2 Absolute best place is Hyman's Seafood. The only REAL BBQ is South Carolina pulled port BBQ. To me, vinegar based sauce of the best but sometimes I will tolerate the mustard base sauce of the low country. 😀

On our second visit ordered it again, later asked and received the recipe. The location is great to sit (outside) and watch the world go by. https://fleetlanding.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Southern-Pecan-Pie.pdf Rosalyn
