New Italian Regs. will unnecessarily shut casino while at sea

The old rule was that casino could open if outside the 3 mile limit. Under a very recent change, the new rule is either 12 or 15 miles. Many itineraries do not go that far off shore; hence casino is closed while at sea to next port. On Splendor now and we have had several closed nights. Tomorrow we go from Livorno to La Spezia- no casino.

I’m sure the revenue loss for RSSC isn’t great, but I’m sure the big boys (RCCL, Carnival, MCS, etc.) are not happy.

@Dwtlion I am on Splendor, too.  

 

The boutiques are closed as well and no cash can come out of the ATM in the casino, as well.

Ouch, I hate to hear this.  We have a Med sailing next year and the casino is one of my favorite evening spots.  On our 1st Splendor cruise, we could hear the band from across the hall playing while we were rolling the dice and it was quite nice.  Was looking forward to doing the same again....

i recently was in Italy  -  despite Italy is a member of the EU as is Belgium -  i was informed that i could not play in a casino -  "playing hall " is maybe a better word for it not having a Italian ID

however you can play with coins not with banknotes in " places with drinks "

I gotta ask - if the ship is offshore, what freakin' difference does it make how far offshore it is?  Just plain dumb, IMO - and I don't even USE the casino!!

I was in the Coast Guard.  If a ship is in territorial waters it's governed by the nation whose waters it sails.  So their law rules.  We claim a 12 mile limit, but 200 mile Exclusive economic zone.  

That's why the cruise lines don't open the casinos until outside the 12 mile limit off the U.S. coast..
