Flight time to US out of BCN?

Cruising in July 2023. Can we make an 11:30am flight out of BCN to US (through Lisbon)? Ship docks at 5am and we'll walk off with our luggage. 

 

And how does customs work when getting off the ship in Barcelona? How long does that take? Only done cruises out of US to this point.

We disembarked in Barcelona in September- the process was very quick. We exited the ship, picked up our luggage and off we went. The longest wait was at the taxi stand. No customs check- was surprised how seamless it was.

Thanks. Definitely good to know. Trying to determine if 11:30 flight out of BCN is ok timing wise.

Barcelona disembarkation was great for us in May. Woke up and we were snug in a berth near the World Trade Center, the pier where smaller ships like Oceania Sirena, Azamara and Silverseas ships are usually assigned.  We didn't have flights until early afternoon, so we enjoyed a nice breakfast, vacated our room at 8 and said some goodbyes.  Getting our bags was easy (with no immigration check) and no wait for taxis outside around 8:30 on a Friday. Easy.

I am sorry but I am so risk-averse.  On 99% of cruises you will have no problem.   A medical emergency or an engine problem might mean your ship gets in late.  

 

As long as you have adequate insurance and a plan B, get off the ship early (we have been off at 6.30 by skipping the breakfast buffet)  you are unlikely to have problems.

We had a 11:50 flight out to PHL.  Now they changed the time to 9:40. Is anyone having delays at security on flights back to the US?

we have the same problem. Our flight was supposed to leave at 12:50 to PHL and they switched it to 9:40. Just curious what you have decided to do.

Last time I flew out of BCN it took more than an hour just through Immigration, and that was without 100's of other cruise passengers trying to do the same thing. I can't recall how much in total, something like two hours (but including a stop for coffee).

My flight to PHL yesterday had 100 empty seats but that was from TLS, not BCN. First flight in over a year that wasn't full. Flying out same day is risky.

We would not be comfortable with a 9:40 flight.  It is possible to make that flight (assuming you dock on time, use express debarkation, and do not have to wait more than a few short minutes to get a taxi) but it would not be within our personal comfort level.  This past year there have been numerous problems/delays at most European airports (including BCN) which caused many missed flights.  There is no way to predict what will happen in the summer (high tourist season) of 2023.  One can hope that Europe solves their airport problems (i.e. shortage of labor, too frequent work stoppages, etc) but at this point it would be anyone's guess.

 

Speaking of express debarkation (this is when folks carry all their own luggage off the ship) just beware that it is a relatively long walk from ship through the winding gangplank, through part of the terminal, down the escalator, through more of the terminal, out the door, and over to the taxi queue.  Not a problem for the mobile who are comfortable rolling their luggage, but it can be difficult for others.  You do pass through a customs area, but we have never been stopped (or noticed anyone being stopped).

We have an 11.15 flight, it was the only direct flight to EWR.  Hoping to be first off and make it. Fingers crossed
