Current Happy Hours on BHBs?

We are currently on the Volendam and for some reason the happy hours have been moved to 8-9 in the Sea View Bar and 9-10 pm in the Mix.  20% off any drink.

I was doing my usual wait in the Guest Services line and ahead of me an elderly gentleman was complaining about Happy Hour times.  He said I go to bed at 8:30 and probably another 1/3 of this ship turns in early also.  He was told that is the way it is. We asked our Mix bartender about this and he opined it was fleet wide.  Now I heard from someone in our Daily and the Zuiderdam has usual Happy Hours in the afternoon to packed bars. Our bars and casino are ghost towns before we usually retire around 9:30.

I would like some examples so when I gripe on Navigator I have examples.  Thanks in advance.

Complaining does work sometimes. On our NYE cruise on the Volendam we complained a key ingredient in the De Groff cocktail Penicillin was not stocked. Their reply to what they use is we substitute. Nothing is like Laphroaig.  We griped about it and the chief wine steward stopped at our table and said Laprhoaig is back in stock. I hope we can get back to afternoon Happy Hours instead of trying to squeeze another quarter out of passengers that spend a great deal to fill this ship for a 74 day cruise. Cheers! 🥃🍷🍾

on Rotterdam, at least as of late December, 2022, happy hour was 4-5pm, half off. This was at Billboard and another nearby bar, not at every bar on the ship.  Great deal though.  The guys at Billboard were generous with the pours.

Holland ships are nicknamed Blue Hulled Beauties.  BHB    Check out Roger Jett photography he was photos of all things HA and probably a photo of the De Groff cocktails.  No antibiotics in the cocktail.

Thank you for the enlightment.  I had never seen that abbreviation nor heard of that nickname.  Every day, something new; not a bad way to live.

BHB's?  Penicillin in cocktails?

"If you’re looking for a soothing drink on a chilly night, look no further than the Penicillin cocktail. This cocktail takes three flavors common in cough drops and herbal remedies—honey, lemon, and ginger—and adds a strong dose of Scotch whisky and a splash of Islay scotch. The Penicillin served in a rocks glass over ice and garnished with candied ginger.

The Penicillin is an innovative drink because, before its invention, mixed drinks made with scotch were rare—scotch’s strong smokiness often doesn’t combine well with other flavors. But when scotch is mixed with the sweet warmth of ginger-honey syrup and the bite of lemon magic happens, making the Penicillin a perfect comfort drink."

That's the name of the cocktail. It doesn't actually contain penicillin*. They use a rim dipped in sparkly sugar and a combination of Azithromycin, Doxycycline, and Erythromycin which is both tasty and helps treat Chlamydia which you get from drinking Clamato**.

Hmm....  Sounds good.  And how frequently is one advised to take this "medicine?"

Cute, but no one who is familiar with your posts would ever mistake your humor for "misinformation!"

P.S.  Why won't  the emoji smile drag down?)

Consider a Happy Hour is intended to generate drink sales at times which are typically slow or to encourage people to buy drinks when they otherwise would not. Thus, if your roadside bar wants to bring in people on their way home from work, cut the price of drinks from 5-7 PM.

If the bars on HAL ships are packed in the early evenings, why should they cut the price of drinks? Sounds like business really dies off later at night so it makes perfect sense to cut drink prices for "Happy Hour" 8-10 PM.

If you are from the Northeast (US) and came of age in the 1970s or 1980s, "BHB" meant Big Haired (Insert derogatory term for Ladies that rhymes with Witches, Britches, Snitches or Itches.)

We were on the Nieuw Amsterdam 14 days in December.  Happy hour was 4-5 every day except for embarkation day, 50% off drinks.  Don't believe everything they tell you.

Printed in our Daily program. Responding to complaints I guess.   50% off some beers. Volendam Saturday events.

Thanks for all your replies today.  I can send some feedback that we are definitely an outlier and not directed by "corporate" to only have a night time happy hour.

On a happier note the Volendam Mariner reception had free flowing sparkling, white and red wine.  I am sure that many of us went back to our cabins for a bit of a nap and celebrating no more masks (we met our less than 2% threshold) and enjoying our Mariner reception. 🍾🍷
