Cyclone Hale

Recommended Posts

After a stormy week here in NZ, we now have a cyclone warning.  I feel for the cruise ship passengers parked up here over the last couple of days.

The stormy weatherman have ships changing their itineraries and going up the west coast or staying around south Island.

A girlfriend of mine is currently on Coral Princess.  I hope she doesn't get caught up in Cyclone Hale, as she is someone who has to have a needle to stop sea sickness.

Even keeping an island between them and the storm may still provide for a bumpy cruise, she may need the jab.

I heard from my friend in Wellington.  They will miss Napier and Tauranga, with the next port of call, the Bay of Islands. They got into all the Sounds as it was quite calm.  No rain on port days.

Slightly off topic but still bumpy seas. My son, his wife and two teenage daughters are currently on Ocean Victory, one of his company's vessels to Antarctica, they encountered 10 metre seas through ye olde Drake Passage which is not unusual.  Calmer waters at the moment in the ice.

Wow 10 metre seas!!  Every time I read of such seas, I'm reminded how lucky we were to have calm Drake.

Currently on the Coral Princess.  We are in Wellington at the moment and are going to miss Napier and Tauranga as tonight we will go through the Cook Straight then up the West Coast tomorrow.  Will do Bay of Islands on Wednesday before Auckland Thursday.
