Hello everyone. We were pleasantly surprised to see SeaDream announce their return to the Monaco GP for next year   We immediately called and booked what should be our 8th SD voyage and our 3rd Formula 1 race. Are any of you booked for this sailing?  Also, have any of you been to the Monaco GP while on SD and do you have any tips travel or race tips?  Cheers!

  • CKforensic changed the title to SD1 to 2024 Monaco Grand Prix

I hate to tell you Piaa, but it is sold out already!  You'll have to waitlist.

For future reference, if you see a "hot" cruise come up that is likely to sell out fast, you can book at that time, then when you are on the ship, cancel for a $50 fee and rebook at the onboard rate.  You will have had to put a larger down payment down but lower price overall.

I wanted to wait to book Norway in 2025 while we were onboard this May but realized it was booking up so quick it might not be available.

On the subject of of the Grand Prix cruise...VERY JEALOUS!  I looked at it but we have been to all the ports before and didn't feel like it was a good choice for us.  We did a Seadream cruise from Monaco pre-covid.  We spent a week in Nice beforehand.  I highly recommend doing that, or at least several days.  Check out https://www.bestofniceblog.com/

Check out the tourist pass.  https://www.frenchrivierapass.com/en  We did it with transportation, which worked out well.  It also gets you the bus back to Monaco if you want to explore another day.  We did the hop on bus , visited the casino, and did a little shopping.

As for the race itself,  I would get full details on what the ship's excursion will be and cost and consider buying tickets on the open market.  I looked at doing a windstar cruise several years ago for the race and the cost was absolutely crazy.  I normally do excursions with the cruise line but in this case I'd do some comparison shopping.

I hear that SD was able to obtain additional race tickets yesterday.  Friends of ours booked on the voyage but waitlisted for race tickets were able to purchase them yesterday.  Not sure if any remain but worth checking.

Good move doing the race in 2024 as the future status of the race is unclear due to disputes between Formula One and the Monaco organizers.  We have done two races while on SD and they get great seats (bleachers as I recall, so bring a cushion if you need one!)  in the same general area of the yacht basin.  They get you there early for the preliminary festivities so plan on a full day.  It rained some each time so bring a poncho (I don’t think they allow umbrellas).

The first time the ship was anchored up the coast in Villefranche sur Mer, between Monaco and Nice, and they bused us to the outskirts of the race area … short walk down.  The second time the ship was anchored off Monaco, but the seas got very rough as the day unfolded.  The tender ride over was an adventure.  SD and even the larger ships moved from Monaco to Nice during the race, but they sent a bus to get us after the race and transport us to Nice.

You will have a good time … it is a classic race of course so a must see at least once if you can!

Do you know the approx price of the tickets available through SeaDream?

I hope everyone has an amazing trip to the GP. We went on another ship while SeaDream was on GP hiatus. For those not booked through cruise ship, be sure to leave early to get to your viewing location as it requires tender which may or may not be near your viewing location. We also experienced significant delay in tender drop off due to the large number of boats trying to drop off at the same location. Think Disney World at Christmas crowds.

Hi Piaa. Sure, will do!  We’re starting to get excited as we are only a few weeks away from departing. I just hope the upgrades from Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes can make the upcoming races more competitive. This will be our 3rd F1 race in three years and we’re hoping to see someone other than Max win! 😳

Thanks for any help
