Car rental at disembarkation in Seward AK

Recommended Posts

We did it the other way (a few years ago).  Limited options and somewhat expensive, but Hertz was right by the port at the time.  Seward and environs can be easily worth a day or two if you have the time.  If it was just to get the two of us to the airport, I'd be of mixed mind whether to do the train, bus, or rental car (might depend on how many ships are in port that day).

We rented a car in Seward and drove to anchorage.  Very nice day. The car rental place is right by the port.  Highly recommend stopping at the animal sanctuary on the way.  It is a must see.

We rented a car from Hertz in Seward, and returned it in Anchorage. It was crazy expensive, but they were the only game in town; the franchise also didn't honor Hertz coupons and discount codes. But it was worthwhile to be able to explore on our own.

Hi Curmudgeon98,

Thanks for the advice. Anyone know how to find out how many ships will be in port on Wed Aug.16.

I will be embarking that day!  Taking the train in.

The Explorer is the only ship in Seward on August 16. I use cruisetimetables.com. Hope this helps.

We spent the day in Seward after our cruise and took the evening train to Anchorage and spent the night there. The train ride was beautiful and both of us could see the scenery.

Hi Mchyfis

How did you handle all your luggage? Is there a locker near the port or train station? Thanks

Margo
