Evening Dress & Specialist Cleaning on QM2

Hi Everyone

 

Loving this board.... Thank you.

 

So. My wife is thinking that she may need her evening dressed cleaned for our round trip while on board. Has anyone had any issues with getting their snazzy expensive evening dress cleaned on the QM2 using the specialist cleaning method?

I’ve got one, but I don’t think it will photograph. Formal evening dress $20.

My wife has found repeatedly over 30+ years that the cleaning of formal dresses on board is of a higher standard, and a cheaper price, than at home.

If any of my long dresses needed cleaning, I would wait until I got home so I could take it to my own dry cleaners for a specialist clean.

 

Edit

Bear in mind, the specialist cleaning process is of a wet variety and I have no idea how my clothes would react to that process.

I seem to remember it specifically stated not for raw silk items, which one of my dresses is. I wouldn't chance any of them to be honest.

Definitely spend the little bit extra for the specialty cleaning while onboard.

On a P&O ship, which I believe was using the same water based process, my wife splashed some sauce on a heavy lined silk Amanda Wakeley gown. The gown was cleaned and came back in perfect condition. The same gown was cleaned at a local chemical based dry cleaner before we left Scotland. When she eventually tried it on here the structured bodice was completely out of shape and even after she had lost most of her excess weight it still wouldn't sit properly and we had to dispose of it.

I mentioned on a past thread that I bought a wool/polyester ivory tux on ebay. It was new but a bit dusty from being in a stockroom for years. I took it on QM2 dirty knowing their cleaning would be much cheaper than a French dry cleaner and probably much safer for the garment. I left it with a note for the cabin stewardess on the first night and it was returned, still a bit damp in the pockets, the following evening. I didn't plan to wear it until night four so it had lots of time to air.

Well don't bite too hard. Blood is such a pain to get out of clothing.

 

I have no idea how many 'long dress' evenings the op will be enjoying but if his wife is anything like me, I take enough long dresses to cover all Gala evenings hence no need to have any specialist cleaning if I spill consommé on my dress.

The laundrettes are a bit of a yomp from aft cabins on QV so we use the ship's laundry for convenience but my expensive stuff, and I have some very expensive clothes, are cleaned by the company I know and trust at home.

Each to their own though but I won't take any chances with some articles of clothing.
