CarolRoy Posted September 6, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Going on a cruise with stops in Croatia, Turkey, and Greece this September. Should I bother getting euros or just use my credit card. I see that euros are now on par with US$,
Rare cruisemom42 Posted September 6, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2023 I carry fewer and fewer euros with me when I travel; that said, there is always that one time where you need cash -- a small restaurant or shop; admittance to a church, pay toilet, etc. So I have a bit with me. Otherwise credit cards rule. Turkey uses the Turkish lira, not the euro.
CruiserBruce Posted September 6, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Euros are not on par with the USD. As I write this, it is 1 euro=1.07 USD. It was 1:09-1.10 when we were in Europe in June. Agree...credit card rules. We spent all of 80 euros in cash in two weeks in Europe.
Rare ninjacat123 Posted September 6, 2023 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2023 And when you use a credit card, you select pay in that country's money, correct? TIA!

Do not ever select an option that handles the charge in your own country's currency. The exchange rate under those schemes (known as Dynamic Currency Conversion) is a rip-off when compared to letting the international credit card/banking system handle the conversion (which is done automatically).
