Labadee & CocoCay Cabana Pricing - remember the good ol' days?

Not so much with CocoCay, since the cabanas are a more recent option,  but while scanning for cabana pricing during this Black Friday sales event, I'm reminded of the history of Cabana Pricing.  We love Cabanas and tend to rent them, but not at these prices.  

 

Wasn't what... 5-6 years ago (maybe longer) where there were several posts here lamenting the jump of Labadee cabanas from $250 to over $500.   And that was before the "Beach Bungalow" ones on Columbus.  Ah, the good 'ol days. 

 

It was only last year where we paid $800 for a South Beach Cabana on CocoCay, and now they are $1,600.  In Aug, we paid just around $1,000 for a Pool Cabana at CoccoCay, but we filled it with 8 ppl.  Those are also $1,600

 

The floating cabanas are $3,999  - for a day. 

 

Yup, I get it - supply and demand.   Come on people - stop demanding - how long can this post-covid "revenge travel" last? 😉

I've been pricing cruises out of PC and its double what my next cruise is coming up next week.

 

I'm having trouble just booking a cruise at a rate I'm ok with being a value for my money.

Looks like demand has fallen. However, daybeds are 399 and sold out.

Several thoughts: 

1.  I don't think $250 is reasonable.  Not for a couple hours of shade.  $399 isn't a great price -- I wonder if that's "decoy pricing"; that is, the cabanas in the thousands make the $399 look like a bargain.  

2.  I don't think it's supply and demand.  In my limited experience, most of the cabanas are sitting empty -- admittedly, we only sail in the fall, which is low season.  I don't get why they're building more when people aren't buying the ones that exist.

Those are awesome prices!!  Our didn't fall when we go close to the cruise - they sold out.

I cannot remember seeing an empty cabana on CocoCay - most certainly depends on the date, and how many ships are at port that day.  

 

I think $399 for a cabana is an awesome price on Coco Cay - you're not talking about those silly day beds - these are cabanas with food/bar service, ice and water, floating mats, a safe, ceiling fan, electrical outlet, etc.

As I said, we only sail in the fall, which is low season.  I fully accept that things may differ in high season.

Eh, yeah, I'd pay $25 at most for that. I'd go $50 for an over-water cabana.  I don't mind walking to get my own food and drink.  It isn't too hot in the fall.  I don't bring anything electrical /anything I'd put in a safe.  The ONLY benefit I see is that you have a spot reserved /don't have to hurry off the ship first thing in the morning.  Your mileage may vary.

For $35,000 a month you could rent a serviced penthouse overlooking Central Park on a 12 month lease! But that’s not all my friends for another $ 35,000 a month, you can have a Marina view property in Monaco, also on a 12 month lease! (Friends can use it when you are in New York) Of course you will want to travel in style, so throw in a pair of First class tickets for you and a partner every 2 weeks, plus helicopter transfers from Nice to Monte Carlo. Our first cabana at Labadee was around $175 and it was one of the ones set back. The time’s certainly have changed.

The first time I rented a Cabana we shared the cost with 2 other couples, one of which was staying in a suite. It was $275 split 3 ways to have the cabanas for suite guests, including the upgraded buffet. That was the only time I felt that it was worth it. I prefer to spend my time at Labadee floating on a mat.

I absolutely refuse to pay those prices.  My maximum for the beach club is $80 pp

I have been to the “updated” Coco Cay over 30 times now (I will be there again twice in the next three weeks). I rarely see empty cabanas at whatever part of the island I am hanging out at on a given day. Granted I don’t go walking around the entire island to see if all the cabanas are being used, but based on my limited experience the cabanas are being used at a very high occupancy rate.

I remember the cabana pricing from 2017/2018 era, you could get one for under $400. Now even the day bed prices have gone up drastically as well. I don't think they will ever go back to those low prices again.

We booked the over the water cabana cabins just after the Oasis entered service. I think it was around $200.00 and I thought that was crazy. The lunch served was mediocre at best. No way would we pay those prices today. Simply not worth it for us.
