Vista suite

Recommended Posts

On Zaandam the balconies start with "Vista Suite" which on any different line and even most of the HAL fleet would be a veranda cabin. One thing is that being a "suite" means you get the double "Mariner" points. We prefer a veranda cabin midships so for our Zaandam cruise that meant a "Vista Suite" I don't know the price difference, we don't look at that. We pick the cabin range we like and ask the price, if we feel the price is appropriate for what we chose then we make the reservation. Recently we chose to change from a Signature suite down to a veranda, by doing this we were able to change our 14 day cruise to a 43 day voyage and only doubled the price as well as eliminating the return air fare.

Many people down-play the Vista Suites on the Zaandam and Volendam as "only verandahs", but they are indeed roomier than verandahs on the larger ships in the fleet, and for that matter roomier with more storage than the Vista Suites on the largest ships (Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam, Rotterdam). We sailed with three adults in a VS on the Zaandam and had plenty of space; on the K'dam it would have been very tight.

On the Pinnacle class ships (mentioned above), the advantages of the VS are the double Mariner points if booked at a published rate, and 32 additional square feet. If the cabin is 8' wide, that is 4' added depth. It felt much more like two rooms. With the sitting and desk area nearest the hall, as opposed to the verandahs which have the sofa+desk nearest the balcony.

There are no other "amenities" with a Vista Suite (and for that matter, a Signature Suite) -- just more room and 2x loyalty points.

On the Statendam!

I thought of another benefit on the Pinnacle ships, and that is location(s). The Vista Suites are all either unobstructed mid-ship, or the coveted aft-facing.

Is the Vista Suite on the Oosterdam anything special or pretty much the same as the Verandah rooms?

From what I understand, HA isn't like Celebrity, where an entry-level suite confers suite benefits.

Oosterdam average Verandah Cabin: 174 sqft (16 m2), Balcony: 46 sqft (4 m2)

Average Signature Suite Cabin: 294 sqft (28 m2), Balcony: 87 sqft (8 m2).

You are correct about benefits. Vista and Signature Suites main perks are location and double Mariner (loyalty) points.
