Thames River Ferry

We will be boarding a Viking ship in Greenwich and want to get to the Tower of London for the “ceremony of the keys”. It looks like there is an easy stop called Tower of London    Has any walked from that dock?  Was this easy to do or should we just take a a cab?

The pontoon at Tower Pier is right by the entrance to the Tower, could not be simpler.

Just a slight note on terminology.  The commuter service between Greenwich and central London (calling at Tower Pier) is known as Thames Clippers*.  Don't use the phrase Thames ferry as there are a few ferries across the river (not in the centre), these are not what you want.  

(* You'll also see lots of advertising calling the service Uber Boat, but we all still call it Clipper)

After visiting the Tower of London we took the boat in the other direction, getting off at Parliament/Westminster,  Easy peasy----going to/from Greenwich I would imagine is just as easy.

We took the Thames Clipper from Westminster to Greenwich two weeks ago. I recall going right under the Tower Bridge, near the Tower of London. As noted above, there’s a stop near the Tower entrance.

 

BTW, if you go to the Tower, allow some extra time for the Borough Market on the south side of the river. It’s the best street market in London IMO.

Dee - Take the Thames Clipper from Greenwich to Tower Pier. On exiting the pier you have a shop on the right, which I recall as being the Tower of London shop and some restaurants on the ground floor of the condo on the left.

 

As soon as you pass the Tower of London shop, head over to the right, which is the meeting point for the tour. At least it was last time we did the tour in 2017. Distance from exiting the clipper on the pier is about 100 - 150 yds.

 

If it is a wet night, and you arrive early they have a few cafes around where you can stay dry. If you want something stronger, they have a Wetherspoon (chain pub) up on the main street just north of the Tower.

 

BTW - it is a brilliant tour.

I have a different question regarding the clipper service.  Prior to our cruise which starts in Greenwich we will be staying in the Westminster area.  If we have checked luggage sized suitcases, how easy is it to use the clipper to get to our ship?  We don’t want to encounter large crowds/standing room only and steps where we can’t pull our luggage.
