Booking Qustion

Recommended Posts

I am looking to book a cruise for for my wife and I and another couple who never cruised before.  With that said If I book the cruise where I am in the first cabin and my wife in the second cabin it will save the other couple $600.  I know that it will be possible to switch who is staying in what cabin, but can this be done in advance before the cruise, if so how or the only option is to wait until we board the ship? If we have to wait until we board the ship is it easy to switch the names for each cabin or is it better to just ask for additional cards to open each cabin? Thanks in advance!

We have done that several times. I don’t know of a way to do that before boarding. We always just get extra cabin cards once on board. It requires carrying two cards for the people not staying in their assigned cabin, but we haven’t found it to be a big deal. There may be a better way. But we are too lazy and this works fine.

I’m curious, how does that save $600?

I’m guessing because the one couple are past cruisers and each have booking offers with better pricing compared to the couple that’s never cruised before.

We did this and did not have to carry two sets of cards.   Have everyone go together to guest services after your board and let them know you need to move people around.  They did this easily.  And it ensured our on board charges were just linked to our credit card and my parents (the other cabin) had their info linked just to their card.   Worked great.

We have this happening again in November when we are taking daughter & her boyfriend.  Currently one cabin in DHs name one cabin in mine for the best rates.  We will switch it all out on board.

The worst part is finding a moment at guest services that isn’t too busy.

We always do the extra key option.  Tried to move people around once and it was a disaster.  It took the entire cruise before all departments knew where we were and the billing got funky.  We prefer to keep it simple and leave the ship out of it.

Or casino offers.  Trying to game the system and asking Carnival to make it easier?  EM

We don't make the rules, Carnival does. So you can take one path under the rules and pay full price or you can take another path under the rules and save $600.

Reminds me of a famous tax case that is a bedrock of tax law. The famed Justice
Learned Hand (love the name) wrote, “There is nothing sinister in so arranging one’s affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible… To demand more in the name of morals is mere cant.”

Most don't know the meaning of cant, so as a point of information only as to what he was saying, Webster's definition: the expression or repetition of conventional or trite opinions or sentiments especially : the insincere use of pious words.

We just did this in July on Glory with friends who were new woth no good offers.  When we did the onkine check in, we made sure to specify the cards each person was charging to and NOT each cabin.  Took guest services all of five minutes to make new key cards for the two who needed to switch and the charge accounts stayed with the person.  It made no difference to guest services who was sleeping in which cabin.
