LIVE from the SUN Princess - 9 Mar 2024 - 10-Day Mediterranean - Second Voyage

How about Park19 and all of the kid oriented stuff up there?

Good point, would suggest that in the design/planning of this ship Princess was thinking about a more family type demographic in travelers and therefore maybe that carries over and reshapes their plans around The Sanctuary and Sundeck areas? Hopefully someone from Princess is reading these forums and taking notes of all the marketing collateral that needs to be updated.

Thanks so much for such an informative review, we’re about to embark on our first ever cruise in May on the sun princess and I’m loving all the details you’ve provided. If it’s not too cheeky to ask have you seen any non alcoholic wines or mocktails being offered? I’ve seen Heineken 0% on a few of the menus but not much else, or have I missed them?

CanadianBurger, I am going to join in and thank you for taking the time to do this for us while you're on vacation! It is so appreciated by those of us with upcoming Sun voyages (my family and I will be on her in June.) But I do have a small request or suggestion ---- can we tone down the Sanctuary, discussion, or maybe move it to its own thread? It has really hijacked this thread, and I think all the questions have been asked and answered many times. Most recent comments are just criticisms of the planning and the design, over and over again. The whole discussion is of little interest to many if not most of us. What about more info on the food, the specialty restaurants, the activities, the specialty and casual restaurants, etc? I'm sure there is much more of interest on this ship than just the Sanctuary.

@CanadianBurger .. Awesome photo! 🤩 that has to be one of the best shots of the ship we’ve gotten, yet.

If Princess ‘were’ smart they’d be reaching out to you with some sort of job offer or future cruise incentive. You definitely need a VACATION, from this ‘vacation’. Princess take care of this man! (and his wife)!

Again, we really appreciate all of this. Going above and beyond doesn’t even describe it…

Hey Princess! There’s something you need to fix!

Some elevator lobbies have the signs with the deck plans in the proper orientation, so regardless of which side you look at, you can tell which way is forward, and which way is aft. Video #1.

But on some decks (looking at you, 9 mid) one side points one way and the other points the opposite way. Video #2. Which is which? Who knows! Man, I feel like a newbie figuring out which way to go on this ship sometimes.

Yep. I planned on taking my gd for her 16 th in a PH, but she may not get to go in the Sanctuary/Sig sun deck,so I’m giving it awhile before I consider this.

Hope you enjoy your suite and things go as you plan.

I hope your trip is great, too, and that everything is wonderful for your gd’s birthday!

Ughh elevators on both sides. I’m going to miss my Royal class ships where the elevators (except the glass ones) all open up so when you exit you are facing toward the front of the ship. That’s how I always know which way I need to go based on the elevator doors opening. I think I’m going to be completely lost on the Sun Princess!

After the Cathedral, we walked a couple of blocks to a little bakery where the cannoli were supposed to be incredible. And were they ever! They were made fresh after I ordered them. I won’t be able to eat one at home ever again! Everything there looked amazing.

Okay Everyone, I have to agree with @cynbar  Let’s stop taking over my Live with Sanctuary complaining. I’ll report on whether or not kids are allowed, then I don’t want to see it mentioned again. I’m going to start another thread specifically about the Sanctuary.

Some ship pics from the dock. First off, I think it’s hilarious that you can hear this guy yelling at me in Italian just from looking at the pic. Gotta watch that yellow line!

The full buffet is no longer available between 2:30pm and 5:30pm. But these items are available at the Eatery during that time.

Oh - I found the “afternoon tea”. Lamest thing ever. A tray of cold scones, and bowls of some kind of whipped cream and jam. C’mon Princess. You can do better.

One of the staff “thought” Afternoon Tea would be returning to a dining room in the future, but no idea when.

I tried a hotdog from the Promenade Grill on deck 9. Like the pizza, I thought it was better than up on Lido. They cook the hot dogs on the grill. Upstairs they’re rolling on the rack like at 7-Eleven.

Edit: at both grill locations you order with someone that fills out a sheet and hands you a pager for when it’s ready.

Stateside, try Mike's Pastry in Boston.  Delicious too!

Hmmm...there's an entire snack setup between lunch and dinner on Discovery and other ships. Surprised this is such a small offering,

Italian night tonight!  The lasagna starter was mouth-wateringly fantastic. Better than the piece I had earlier from The Eatery. Sorry, it looked so good I forgot the pic. The chicken parm was equally excellent. We went to the Reserve dining room about 8:15 and were seated immediately.

Holy Cannoli 😋😋😋

My favorite dessert & it should always be freshly filled just before eating to keep the shell crunchy. My Sicilian born aunt made great cannolis & I’ve never had a bad one in Sicily. Were those with chocolate flakes & not candied fruit?

That’s how it is in Celebrity’s Retreat or NCL’s Haven, or basically at any main pool on any cruise ship.

But these are not main pools and that is not how it is on the Sanctuaries on Princess ships.  You can reserve your lounges in advance for 1/2 day, full day or the entire cruise or you can try your luck on any given day.  On the MSC Yacht Club sun deck there is no need for reservations; there are plenty of lounges.

One of the highlights of any visit to Sicily are cannoli where as much attention is put into the shell as the filling.  They are a work of art and a gastronomic pleasure.
